Dear Harry, Louis, Liam, Niall, (and Zayn),
Well, the time has come. A moment that I have, in a sense, been in denial about since you all announced that you would be taking a break from the music industry. You gave your last performance as a band for the time being, and I have I tried to avoid it. I mean, I really tried avoiding it. But I had to come to the conclusion that my favorite band would not be returning as a group for quite some time. One Direction wouldn’t be on Good Morning America performing in Central Park to promote their newest album. I wouldn’t be getting live updates on tour preparations and videos of sound checks from other fans around the world. I would not be going to your tour this summer and hearing my favorite songs live. When all of this struck me, I came to the realization that I could go about this one of two ways — be sad and cry listening to your "Take Me Home" album on repeat with a bucket full of ice cream, or carry on with my life as it is. As tempting as the ice cream was, I choose the latter.
Now most would think that I am being over dramatic. How could a little boy band cause this much emotion in, not only one, but millions of ladies (and gentlemen) across the globe? The answer lies in two words that I have to say to you boys — thank you. Thank you for pursuing your dreams and doing what you love. Thank you for providing me with wonderful memories of my teen years that will last me my entire life. You provided me with endless laughs, friendships that I will cherish always and countless stories to tell at parties — stories of my adventures that revolved around attending your concerts, waiting hours in line to watch you on the Today Show and Good Morning America through either freezing temperatures or tremendous wind and rain.
Let’s also not forget a few of the crazier tales of me running around the streets of New York City just to get a glimpse of you all, waiting outside of studios and after parties where I definitely did not belong. To the average person, I sound insane. But to the millions of fans like me out there, these tales sound just as lovely and familiar as their own. You boys provided a world of happiness, one where we fans could escape to when our real world was crashing around us. While you boys are on break, we will have your videos and music to turn to every now and then as we grow up and face the challenges that ever coming of age adult does, and I couldn’t thank you enough for that. You give us a chance to escape for a little bit.
You boys deserve this break. You have worked non-stop for the past five years to make us fans happy, now it is time to make yourselves happy. As a fan, I ask that you take this time to focus on what your needs are and to most importantly get the rest that you all so very much deserve. Whether it is in fact just 18 months that you guys are away, or longer, all I ask is that you come back when you are all ready to start the next chapter in your career path. We’ll still be here when you do.
Sincerely,
A Directioner who will be here till the very end
