Dear older siblings,
First things first—I’d like to formally apologize for ratting you out (time and time again) while we were growing up. I could lie and say I didn’t know any better, but honestly, it was always better for you teenagers to get in trouble than me. Plus, look at how innocent I was:
Thank you for being the best (and worst) role models I could ever ask for. Without you guys and your midnight wakeup calls for a ride, I probably would’ve gotten fuller nights of sleep. Without you guys, I would’ve known a lot less swear words by age five, and without you guys, I probably would’ve gotten pants’d in public a lot less.
Thank you for conning me into doing things for you by simply adding a time limit to the task. I never wanted to waste my time doing you favors like bringing your bowl of Mac and cheese to the dishwasher until you bet me I couldn’t do it in under 10 seconds. (I always finished before the timer was up, by the way.)
Thank you for establishing not-so-good reputations for yourselves at our high school so that I had to work that much harder to make some of my teachers forget my last name. My favorite thing a teacher ever said to me in regards to you guys: "Do you all talk this much?"
On the other hand, thank you for playing sports in high school so I seemed cool in front of my "oldest sibling" friends. When your names were called on the field/court before the national anthem was sang, I was the self-proclaimed coolest kid in the stands.
A big thank you to my older brothers for being ready and able to beat up any—and every—guy that ever hit on me. You guys never fail to let me know you'll all but kill anyone that ever hurts me in the future. You guys are 100 percent the reason I don’t bring boys home to meet the family.
All jokes aside, thank you all for never letting me forget how proud of me you are, whether it be for something big like securing an internship or something small like finally watching a movie you've been telling me to watch for years. Your words and opinions mean more to me than you’ll ever know, and I'm honored that you got to help shape me into the person I am today.
Thank you for taking me out to ice cream the day you got your license. Thank you for coming to visit me while I was abroad in Europe. Thank you for moving out, but always leaving your door wide open for me. And finally, thank you for becoming my best friends. I wouldn’t trade the friendships we’ve established for the world, and I’m beyond excited to see what shenanigans our clan will get into in the future.
With love,
The littlest sis
