A Thank You Letter To My Middle School Squad

To my best friends who have been with me since the dark days of middle school, I just want to say thank you.

A Thank You Letter To My Middle School Squad

You are the friends who have seen me at my worst. You are the friends who have seen me at my best. You have been there for the laughs. You have been there for the cries. You have heard it all and the best part is, you have stayed for every milestone.

No cries, no fights, no unattractive moments can phase you because you have seen it all before. Any words that are said have been said before. If they have not, then it is just one thing to make our bond stronger. After what you have seen you deserve a medal. Or maybe another pizza night.

You are my people. You are my family. There are no words to express my love for you. All I can say is that those sleepless nights we have when we are reunited are the moments I look forward to every summer. We can go weeks without talking but as soon as a Google hangout starts, it is like we were never separated.

You have heard it all. You know my secrets, my fears, my hopes. I trust you as much as I trust my parents. But how could I not? We went through those dreaded middle school years together. We did not see each other much during high school because we were finding ourselves. College came and we realized how much we needed each other. We are spread out in four different states but still find time to connect with each other. If that could not tear us apart I do not think anything could.

We dressed in early 2000's clothes, we texted on dinosaur-age flip phones and we had morality class. We told each other about our first boyfriends/girlfriends, our first F on a test, our struggles with fitting in. You saw me when I had my horrible eyebrow malfunction, listened to my self-esteem struggles and celebrated my weight loss goal. We helped each other through terrible break-ups and very early mid-life crises.

But now we are in college. We are almost adults. It seems like a scary time and we do not feel ready. Who could have foreseen how close we would become? Although these next two years seem to be closing in at the speed of light, I think I may just survive them with you all at my side. You are my rock, my ray of sunshine, my best friends.

Thank you, squad. My love for you goes above and beyond anything I could ever say. Thank you for the laughs, the cries and the hugs. Thank you for the pep talks, the late night venting sessions and the random yet insightful conversations. Thank you for being you. Best friends forever.

And also, thank you for this picture because it embodies our friendship.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
