THANK YOU!
You work a thankless job but know there are many people who are thankful for you and everything you do. It has become honorable for some to dishonor law enforcement but I want to take some time to honor you for all you do for myself, my family, my friends, my community and my country. Thank you for making sure you go home safe to your family ever night, you deserve to. Without respect for you, our society will decay into chaos.
I write this letter to say I stand by you, all of you. The majority of which are upstanding citizens who work hard each day and put their lives on the line for EVERYONE. You do not deserve to be portrayed as racist, murderers, bigots, pigs, or those who think you are “above the law”. You have chosen a job that serves our communities and country and for that I am thankful.
Thank you to the families of our law enforcement, thank you for letting your husband, wife, daughter, son, grandfather, grandmother put their lives on the line every day to make my life safer. I’m sure it is terrifying not knowing who they will encounter on a daily basis or even if they will come home each night but know I am thankful for you as much as for them, for sacrificing so much. Every day that an officer puts on their badge to leave their house they know there is a chance they could not come home that night. The kiss they give to their wives, husbands and children could be their last.
Officers are some of the most needed and at the same time most unwanted people. A person who is “sir” to his face and “pig” to his back, if he makes a decision quickly he’s careless but if he is deliberate in his decisions he is lazy. If you hit him he is a coward, if he hits you he is a bully. Everyone wants things to be black and white but the job of an officer is a grey area, no matter what decision they make there will always be someone saying it was the wrong decision.
Just as doctors and nurses take an oath to heal officers take an oath to protect. Just as a doctor has to give a shot to a patient, even though they may not like it officers have to do things that citizens do not like, such as write someone a ticket, or arrest someone who has the potential to harm themselves or others. Do we disgrace doctors for doing their jobs? No. So why do we disgrace cops for doing theirs? For those of you anti-cop supporters out there I just want to leave you with one piece of advice, next time you are in a situation where you need to call upon an officer, instead call a criminal.
As a civilian, I will never truly understand the depths of your job and what you are required to do on a daily basis to keep the rest of us safe, but what I can do is be gracious to law enforcement, be a law abiding citizen and truly thank each and every one of you for doing the job that many of us chose not to do.
