Thank You to My Inspiration

Sometimes social media can change your life.

It's the 21st century, which means we have all met people through social media. Whether or not that is a good or a bad thing is up to you, but to me, it is possibly the best thing that has ever happened to me.

Even though we attended the same middle school, one day I looked at my phone and had a DM from a girl I had always wanted to be friends with, and the rest is history. In middle school, we hung out and were equally weird. She had blue hair streaks, I wore red Aeropostale sweatshirts every day. We understood each other. Throughout high school, we used our phones to keep in touch, as we ended up in different schools. Social media had given me a person to go through the toughest years of someone growing up *cough 16 cough,* and I had a person who was always with me, giving some of the best advice I have ever received, even if it was virtually the majority of the time. During these years I began writing, music mostly. This is the same time she began writing and loving poetry. We always ran our work by each other, and her being steps above me with rhymes and making words fit together, she always inspired me to write and write and write some more.

While in tears over applying to colleges, my best friend suggested I apply to a school that she had loved since her freshman year of high school, just because. Looking up to her and admiring her ability to see the little things I never did, I looked into, applied, got into, and am currently writing this from the college she suggested, with her also on the same campus, together again after middle school.

Now I no longer write music because I just did not have a talent for that, but I learned I do have a knack for other things, such as article writing. This girl inspires ever article I write for the Odyssey, and always proof reads the ones I struggle to word, like she has been doing for me for so many years. This girl was always a phone call away when I needed her, often in adolescent tears. This girl is so strong, the strongest I know. This girl deserves the world, and can manage to make the world come together at her fingertips when she writes. This girl has seen me through being boy crazy, and will stand next to me as my maid of honor at my wedding, as I commit to one boy forever. (She's so proud of me for this, let's be real). This is one of very few people who I see in my life into the unforeseeable future, like she is family. This girl is family, she always has a place not only in my life, but my family's as well.

So thank you, for inspiring me, for staying up all night with me, for hugging me after car accidents, for always knowing what to say. Thank you for a friendship very few people get, one that I am incredibly fortunate to have. I cannot thank you enough, Cait, for everything you have done and continue to do for me. Thank you for being my muse.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
