Dear Grandma,
I know that Thanksgiving is all about saying what we're thankful for
But one day is not enough.
I know that neither is this poem, but I hope you get the gist.
Thank you for being the solid rock in my life, in everyone's lives.
You are the one that holds this family together.
When everything that could possibly go wrong happens,
you are the one that stands calm, ready to battle with those in need.
Thank you for believing in me, even when I didn't.
When I was offended by racial comments from a classmate in college,
You are the one who told me that I was here because I was strong.
You said that one boy was not something to cry about
Because there's a whole world of people just like him
And where would we be if no one stood up to them.
Thank you for taking care of my sisters and I.
When Mom wasn't fit to care for us, you took us under your wing.
And you never let us talk bad about her
Because you said she was still our mom, and she still loved us.
Thank you for making sure I knew where I came from.
You always reminded us that Wagner would be our home
And wherever we were, that my sisters and I could always come to you.
Thank you for staying here so long.
I know that you're really sick, and you have been for a while.
But you made it this far to make sure we made it okay.
You know us better than we know ourselves,
and you're body is telling it's okay to leave now.
We're gonna be alright.
So before you go, I just wanted to say
Thank You <3
