You might be off to take on the real world, headed to a different university, or just where ever the wind blows but if you got your start at Georgia Southern you own the little town of Statesboro, Georgia a big thank you.

Here's to you Georgia Southern:

Thank you for all the friendships I have made.

Thank you for El Jap happy hours.

Thank you for being a small enough school to get from one side of campus to the other in 15 minutes (if you jog a little along the way).

Thank you for Burkhalter mud-bogs in hurricane weather.

Thank you for game days at Sigma Nu.

Thank you for being walking distance from greek row, to the stadium, and the bars.

Thank you for amazing professors who (most of the time) sincerely care about their students.

Thank you for the football team (and their good looks).

Thank you for nontraditional style dorms.

Thank you for Gnats pitchers.

Thank you for parker $0.89 fountain drinks ($0.95 with tax).

Thank you for band parties at Sigma Chi.

Thank you for the 1st floor of the library.

Thank you for extremely affordable off campus housing.

Thank you for Chick-fil-a and Starbucks on campus.

Thank you for the picnic tables at tav.

Thank you for all the girls you met in the bathroom while you're out.

Thank you for being my home away from home.

Thank you for being close (enough) to the beach.

Thank you for accepting me even when I wasn't perfect.

Thank you for helping me find my place.

Thank you for showing me how to grow on my own.

Thank you for only having a Walmart (no Kroger or Target) to make grocery shopping on my own easier.

Thank you for the beautiful sunsets.

Thank you for all the beautiful boys.

Thank you for giving me the confidence to succeed in my future.

I could go on for hours. I owe it all to you, Southern. You have taught me more about myself in my time here, than I have learned my whole life.

I am have forever in debt to you, Georgia Southern University.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
