A Thank You Letter To My Best Friend

Dear Best Friend,

Oh man, where do I even begin? We have been through everything together and I cannot think of a better person to have by my side through all of it. I'm so happy the universe really did me a solid and let us exist at the same time. This one's for you, girlfriend.

First and foremost, I would like to say a special thank you for loving me when my makeup consisted of bright blue eyeshadow, raccoon eyeliner and foundation three shades darker than my skin tone. Thank you for never judging me for my fashion choices or choices of boyfriends (yikes). Most importantly, thank you for always being there when said boyfriends hurt my feelings. Thank you for always having my back, and taking my side even if I'm wrong. Thank you for always letting me be myself and never judging me for it.

Thank you for listening to me ramble on and on about everything under the sun, even if it's not something you care about. Thank you for always listening to my opinions on things, including politics, even though many of our views are very different. Thank you for letting me be the mama bear that I am and letting me protect you even when you think you don't need protecting. Thank you for being my best friend, sister, child, partner in crime, concert buddy and so much more all rolled into one.

Thank you for forcing me out of my comfort zone and dragging me on all of the crazy adventures we've had. I know that I complain all the time and I'm always anxious, but thank you for doing it anyway. Thank you for always going along with my crazy schemes, even when there was a 110 percent chance we were going to get in trouble for whatever it was. I would not have done half the things I have or learned the lessons I have if it were not for you. I am better because I know you, I wouldn't be me if I didn't have you by my side.

You have taught me more than you will ever know. You have shown me the true meaning of friendship. We may fight like an old married couple and sometimes we don't talk for a while, but even when this happens, I know without a doubt that you've still got my back, no questions asked. Thank you for always being someone I know I can count on. Thank you for always being there when I need you and even when I don't. Thank you for always understanding me, or at least trying to.

Thank you for loving me when things got rough. Thank you for loving me when it felt like no one else did. It is because of you that I never have to worry about not being needed. Because of you, I know that I will always have a safe place to hide when things get too much to handle. You have taught me that even at my absolute worst, I still deserve to be loved. Thank you for always taking care of me and never giving up on me. I will never be able to repay you for all the things you have done for me over the years. Please know that wherever life takes us, even if you aren't with me physically, you will always be in my heart. I love you to the end of the universe and back a million times.

Thank you for being my home. Thank you for everything.

All my love,

Your Best Friend

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
