There are so many things that we do not thank our dads for, which is a darn shame. Sure, we do not do this on purpose, but there are a lot of little things that all dad's do without even expecting you to notice. Since it is Father's Day, here are a few things that I would like to thank my father for because I want him to feel appreciated.
The monster scares
I know that it has been years since I have drug you into my room to check to make sure that there was no monster's under my bed or my closets. I wanted to thank you, sure it seemed so petty when I was little, but looking back at this I cannot help but thank you. At the time I was so scared of something that didn't exist, but you understood my fears and helped me through them.
The ball games
Thank you for introducing me to the world of sports. Without them I do not know what I would watch in my free time. Thank you for taking the time to teach me how to throw a football, catch a baseball and for learning how to play golf. I know that I was not the most coordinated child, but you taking the time out of your day to teach me means the world.
The Coach
Not many children can say that they have had their father to be their coach, but I am lucky to say I had one on and off the field. I am so thankful that you would want to help coach me and make me and my friends better at our sports.
The shoulder to cry on
I know that no dad likes to see their child hurt, but when we are it is nice to have a shoulder to cry on. I know that when mom was not home or vice versa it was nice to have a shoulder to cry on. I know that some of the things I was hurt by where so little and petty, but at the time they were very huge things in my life.
The college visits
Thank you for driving the whole family and I to different colleges to see if they were the right fit for me. I know that some colleges I would walk onto the campus and I would want to leave right away because it didn't feel like home at all. Thank you for being understanding and wanting me to be at home.
The prom dress shopping
I know that most dad's do not like Prom season because this means hours in the store watching your daughter try on hundreds of dresses. I know that there is no easy way to describe how it feels to walk out in the dress and hear your dad say he loves it to. I know that our mom's help us choose our dresses and that their approval is just as important.
The late-night homework help
I can still recall all the late nights we had while doing homework. I know that I still have you to thank for helping me pass Trig, because without you helping me there was no way I could have done this. Thank you for never leaving my side and helping me where you knew I was struggling.
The Dad Jokes
Yeah I know that they are corny, but there is nothing that makes me smile more then when I say, "Ugh, I am hungry," and you respond with, "Hi, hungry I am Dad." I remember that I use to get so confused when I was little about this joke, but looking back at these jokes I cannot help but smile.
The caring side
Not most dad's have a soft spot, but I am thankful that mine does. I know that you would do anything for our family and I cannot thank you enough. I know you work a lot to provide for our family, and there are some days where we do not show you how much we appreciate you.
Learning how to be respectful
Thank you for teaching me how to be a respectful person because without you and mom helping me, I would not have been the child I am today. Thank you for when I was out of line, to put me back on the straight and narrow.
Being you
Thank you, Dad, for all you do. Thank you for being a dork and an even dorky dancer. Thank you for being there for me and the whole family all the time. We all love you so much and I hope that you have a wonderful Father's Day.
