Thank You, Big Brother

My brother and I have a three year age gap, so naturally, we have been close our entire lives. But, going on our third year of not living under the same roof and seeing each other regularly has made me realize how much I appreciate him when I see him. His name is Kevin, and he is the most genuine human being I know. Here is a letter to you Kevin about why I am so thankful to have you in my life.

Thank You For Being My Best Friend.

I honestly have no idea where I would have ended up in life if it weren't for you being my rock through all of our hardships. You never let me go to sleep sad and you always knew how to put a smile on my face. It's rare for brothers and sisters to have a relationship like ours and I am truly thankful to call you my best friend.

Thank You For Always Having My Back.

Whenever I needed/need you, I can always count on you to be there for me. Whether it be supporting me while I run at track meets or just sending me a text saying how proud of me you are for whatever reason it may be. You never fail to make me feel appreciated even when I feel like the world is against me.

Thank You For Being as Weird as Me.

There isn't a minute that goes by in which we aren't laughing or joking around with one another. Nothing is ever really serious with us, and that is my favorite part about our relationship. You are always looking to have a good time, just like me, and it makes our time together that much better.

Thank You For Not Showing Your Emotions Regularly.

I know this sounds insane, but I appreciate it so much. This has taught me to never take you for granted. We only say I love you when we won't be seeing each other for a while, and when we do say it, it means that much more to me. You come to appreciate the little things in life when you don't see each other regularly. And when you do show me your emotions, I know that they are 100 percent genuine and they aren't meaningless words.

Thank You For Being You.

You have always been someone who I have looked up to, literally and figuratively. You stick to your word, you stand up for anything that you believe in, and you don't take crap from anyone. I admire every quality about you.

No matter where life brings us, Kevin, I will always be your little sister and you will always be my big brother. I love you endlessly and I am so blessed to call you my best friend. Never change because you are the best person I know.

Love,

Your Little Sis

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
