When I went through recruitment, on Preference Day I found the girl that I wanted to be my Big, and I knew almost instantly that we were the most perfect match. As the year went on, I started to realize that one day I was going to have to find my own Little, and I wanted her to be just as compatible with me as my Big. I didn’t think that it was possible for me to find someone that I connected with so easily like I did on my own Preference Day, until I met my Little.
Last fall was my first formal recruitment as an active member, and needless to say, by the last day I was a more than exhausted. I was also kind of distraught that I hadn’t met that one girl I really had to have in my house. Then, the last party of Preference Day, it happened. I finally met my rush crush. Just like with my Big, I knew instantly that this girl was going to be my Little, and I think she felt it too, because the rest is history. My little has been one of the most important people in my life for almost a year now, and it is about time I thank her, so here is a thank you letter to her:
Dear Little,
Thank you for always coming to the house and hanging out with me before socials or even just before chapter.
Thank you for walking into chapter late with me because we just didn’t want to walk down in time.
Thank you for finding my keys when I was freaking out that one time.
Thank you for watching all the same shows as me.
Thank you for hating who I hate, just because I hate them.
Thank you for sneaking me into the dining hall numerous times.
Thanks for sending me hilarious Snapchats (which I often screenshot).
Thank you for entertaining me with your amazing humor.
Thank you for sharing your friends with me.
Thank you for the amazing paddle you made me.
Thank you for always telling me, “Happiness is a mood, not a destination,” even though I don’t listen most of the time.
Thank you for listening to me complain about boys.
Thank you for listening to me cry over boys you warned me about, without saying “I told you so.”
Thank you for telling it as it is, and never sugar coating anything.
Thank you for always texting me back, even when you are busy, or in class, or at camp for the summer.
Thank you for having a traditional picture pose with me.
Thank you for always trying to make me happy when I am sad, which is not an easy job for you.
Thank you for showing me how it is to care for someone more than you care for yourself.
Thank you for making me feel like we are actually mother and daughter most of the time.
And lastly, thank you for being someone that I can be proud of every day, because you are smart, beautiful, and the most amazing friend/Little I could have ever hoped for, and much, much, more. <3
