A Thank You Letter to Dance:
If you are or ever have been a dancer you know that it consumes your life. From hour after hour of practices, to spending your entire weekend at a competition, it truly does become your everything, but we all know it’s by far the greatest and best parts.
Thank you for breaking me out of my shell
As a dancer there is no choice but to show all the emotion you have when you’re dancing, whether that be being the sassiest you can ever be, putting your heart into your lyrical, or maybe even showing your wild side during that hip hop dance. Thank you for showing me it’s okay to break out and be your self not only in dance, but all through life.
Thank you for teaching me you can’t always win
I’ll be the first to admit it, losing at competitions sucks.. You work so hard all year and then you watch it all go down the drain in a matter of 10 seconds. Even though looking back those were some of the toughest moments, it has taught me a lot. You can work you’re a** off , and sometimes things just don’t work out and you don’t get what you want. But just like dance, you get back up and try and try again. (after maybe a little yelling from your teacher) and the next time you succeed.
Thank you for the friendships
The people I have met through dance have been some of the greatest people that have walked into my life. They are the only people that will ever understand what it feels like to be at a competition for 14 hours on a Saturday, and the only people that understand those cruel words from your teacher of “1 more time girls”. For me they were some of the first best friends I ever had growing up. Dance friends are like no one you will ever meet.
Thank you for making me into the person I am today.
Dance has taught me not only to be myself, but it has taught me who I am. It shaped me into the person I am today. Without it I would have never been able to do foute after foute, or learned that you really can be flexible if you try, but it has taught me many valuable life lessons and gave me some amazing opportunities. So thank you dance, thank you for giving me the opportunity to become the person I am today.
