A Thank You Letter To My Best Friends

You come into college with hopes of not only making good grades and graduating, but also making friends. Friends that you will have for the rest of your life. At first it can be scary, but once you meet the right people, you know. You know you have found them. It doesn’t take long before they are convincing you that ordering pizza at 2:00 a.m. is the right thing to do, that spending all your money on clothes is always OK, and that boys are just too overrated.

Before you know it, you have best friends! They make college and everything else you are going through a whole lot easier. You all become roommates, you are each other's life coaches, and down the road you know they are going to be your bridesmaids. You wouldn’t be able to survive without them.

It is the best feeling in the world when you find your best friends. My friends have shaped me into the person I am today. We have our ups and downs, but at the end of the day, I wouldn’t trade them for the world. They always have my back.

Here are five reasons to thank your best friends:

1. They will always make you laugh.

At the end of a stressful day when all you want to do is laugh, they will be there to tell you the cheesiest jokes in the world. You will spend three hours laughing at something that’s probably not that funny, and once you realize it’s 4:00 a.m. instead of going to bed, you will continue to laugh.

2. They will choose you over boys.

Boys are so overrated, am I right? When you are going through a tough break up, or the boy in your class still hasn’t asked you for your number, they will be there for you.

3. They will always take your side.

When someone is talking trash to your face, they will get in that person’s face and back you up. No one gets between you and your best friends.

4. They will always tell the truth.

When everyone around you is telling you what you want to hear just to make you feel better, they are telling you the truth. It might hurt at the moment, but later you will thank them. They only do it because they care.

5. They will always be there when you need them.

Through thick and thin, your best friends are always there for you. They know you like no one else does.

So, take a moment and thank your best friends, because you are so lucky to have them. Remember to always hold onto them and love them.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
