An Unnecessary And Heartbreaking Tragedy in Belgium

An Unnecessary And Heartbreaking Tragedy in Belgium
Christian Hartmann/Reuters

It was a quiet morning, what most would call average. The slight hustle and bustle of daily routines were proceeding the wake of another day. Business was being conducted, people were shopping, interactions were occurring, people were traveling, and life was just moving forward at a steady nonchalant pace. For most people this included a general overall sense of happiness and belonging. Happiness through fulfillment of life, and belonging to a community of mostly good people surrounded by positivity.

Yet, this particular morning things drastically changed. Happiness fled like fearful birds and the positivity vanished as did the lives of so many. A community of human beings, co-existing in happiness and common interests were torn to shreds by one brief moment. A moment of ignorant desperation clouded in close-minded brainwashed behavior. A moment of weakness for humanity. A moment of pure negativity and down right evil. A moment that will hopefully never be repeated, especially in this region of the world.

On March 22nd, 2016 there occurred three linked bombings in Brussels, Belgium. One at the metro station and two at the airport. There were three suicide bombers at the cause of these completely horrific attacks. In the wake of their ignorantly devastating actions, they left a heart-wrenching 28 dead and over 300 injured.

Please take a moment to pause and reflect on this knowledge. Allow your thoughts and frequency to be for those affected. Think for a moment about how these types of incidents are massive backward steps for humanity. Breathe in slow and deep. Once for the sheer weight of this tragedy, once for those affected, and once more for those who were unfairly stripped of the ability to breathe.

It wasn't just Belgium who was devastated by this. People from all over the world have been affected. At least two American's have been allegedly reported dead from the bombings among many people from various countries.

Women, children, and men, all going about their seemingly normal day were suddenly ripped from this world. Those who were traveling, to work, to school, to shop, to see friends, to see family, became "victims" on this day.

I don't understand how this happens. I mean, I get that whenever there is a society of people you will eventually come across those who are willing to kill fellow people. It's an unfortunate side effect of societies. What I don't get is the push or aid these people have to carry out their unspeakable tasks. Now, I'm not saying get rid of all guns, but somehow these people acquire military grade weapons. I'm not saying don't sell household items that could be used to make bombs, but somehow these people gain the knowledge and the means to build largely effective weapons that destroy lives.

I don't understand. But, let me be clear on my lack of understanding. It's not that I don't understand the people who would commit these acts, or even their "reasoning". I don't understand how it gets to this point; how so many people through so many channels can just turn a blind eye when they are fully aware of the potential outcome. All the human beings that sell the weapons, trade the weapons, spread the knowledge, instigate, instill, persuade, and allow evil to spread it's deadly claws across the faces of the innocent. That's what I don't get. People who look the other way when military weapons are sold, "stolen", or crossing borders. Those people who ignore warnings and remain ignorant to knowledge, those people who profit from these acts of terrible violence, and the people who have a hand in the acts committed, are the people I don't understand.

Call me human but I don't think I will ever comprehend the mentality of those who allow evil violence to occur, and those who push or benefit from it. I don't get how humans openly, freely, and in some stomach-churning cases enjoy killing, or having a hand in killing fellow human beings. Then again I don't understand living in a society where violence is encouraged and murder is desensitized. From the moment we can comprehend knowledge we are being brainwashed through a thousand forms, but why can't the brainwashing be positive. Why does it have to be so negative, so hateful, so close-minded, and so destructive?

According to some sources, Belgian authorities were aware of terrorists within their borders. In fact, less than a week before the attack Turkish officials had allegedly warned Belgium about the terrorists and even exposed the identities of those who ended up being the suicide bombers.

I guess that is what I am talking about. How can a person sit back ignorantly and allow the senseless killing of other humans? No empathy. No sense of humanity.

Our thoughts, our prayers, our hearts, and our collective vibration go out to you Belgium. It goes out to all who were affected and all those who lost the light of life that day. I can only hope society will learn, and heal. I can only hope that human beings will start showing actual signs of being human. You know; expressing acceptance, empathy, open-mindedness, love, compassion, unity, and care. I can only beg that we as humans will one day eliminate those that spread hatred and evil acts by doing away with outdated, ignorant, and destructive ideology, not by war.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
