10 Things Everyone Thinks About During Syllabus Week!

1. *Alarm for my 8 a.m. class* Well I guess it's time to get this over with.

I also end up hitting the snooze button a couple times before I actually get up and go to class.

2. At least this first class should only last 10 minutes!

Two hours later the professor is still going strong. Does this person ever stop?

3. What have I gotten myself into?

When you first look at a syllabus for your class you just sit there and wonder what in the world have I done? Everyone has this thought, and it is quite common among freshman in college. This is new territory for them, and they will soon realize their lives are different from when they were in high school.

4. Do I really need this class for my major?

Usually the answer is yes, you need the class for your major. When that is the case you will break down in tears like Anne Hathaway here.

5. Looking at syllabus ... Deciding which days you can skip.

Usually the answer is none, but you decide to skip a few days anyway. How bad can it affect my grade anyway? Then when you do skip, trying to avoid the professor is always fun especially on small campuses.

6. Did this professor just give me homework on the first day?

Isn't syllabus week about relaxing and getting back into the swing of school? Well it seems some professors did not get the memo.

7. I can binge watch Netflix without any regrets!

This is not true. There will always be a little regret when you spend hours inside watching Netflix instead of being out with friends. Especially when you have professors who assign homework the first day of class.

8. Why did I sign up for a night class on Monday?

This is when you begin to contemplate other means of money. Maybe stripping wouldn't be too bad? Who am I kidding, they wouldn't be able to handle me as a stripper!

9. Well maybe I should actually take a look at the syllabi and see what these classes are about ...

This is when you decide if you should drop the class and put it off until senior year! If you are like me though, you want to get all of your hard classes out of the way so you can have fun senior year!

10. Well, syllabus week was fun, but now it is time to actually learn!

I know, I know. Learning is never fun, but is a necessary evil. Just think about the future and all the money you will supposedly make with your job after college.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
