Anyone who has known me at any point in my life since the sixth grade knows that I love Lady Gaga with all of my heart. I have devoted actual years of my life to being a fan of hers. I have a hard copy of all of her albums. I have a poster of her in my college dorm room that I've had since I was about 13. I have t-shirts and bracelets with Gaga related things on them. So, the word obsessed may be an understatement. That being said, when I found out she was performing at this year's Superbowl Halftime Show, I actually cried. This is something I've been wishing for for about 5 years. Being a fan for so long has given me the opportunity to create the perfect SuperBowl setlist in my head. I know she probably won't be able to sing ten songs, but that is the ideal number in my head.
1. Bad Romance
OK, but is it really a Gaga performance if she doesn't sing "Bad Romance?" No, it's not! Therefore it's almost guaranteed that she will. It is one of her most popular and best-selling songs. Also, it set the tone for her sophomore album "The Fame Monster." I also want to hear it because it is still one of my favorite Lady Gaga songs and I still get chills every time I listen to it even though it's been like seven years. Is it bad that I once learned all of the choreography to this video?
2. Born This Way
Amid the current political climate in America, this song is very much needed. It talks about the importance of being yourself and accepting others no matter what identities they possess and no matter how much those identities differ from your own. Aside from that, "Born This Way" is also one of Gaga's biggest hits so honestly, it is pretty much guaranteed that she'll sing this one.
3. Just Dance
This was Gaga's first chart-topping single. This is the song that made people sit up and take notice of this girl with bleach blonde hair and an interesting sense of style. If it wasn't for this song, I wouldn't even be in this deep. Also, "Just Dance" is a bop! And "The Fame" was groundbreaking, especially for a debut album. So, if she doesn't sing this song then I will actually be offended.
4. Poker Face
Everyone knows "Poker Face." It is iconic. The first scene from the video is the poster on my wall. This song was huge! Without this song, there's no point in her even having a setlist, to be honest. I used to know all of the choreography to this video as well. Do y'all see a pattern a here...?
5. Perfect Illusion
As Lady Gaga's most recent well-to-do single, she will most likely sing "Perfect Illusion." It ushered in yet another new era for Lady Gaga. This song also gives better insight into her vocal ability.
6. Telephone
Not only is "Telephone" a bop, but also the potential to bring out Beyonce as a special guest during your halftime performance is never a bad idea. If Gaga performed this song and then Beyonce just came out everyone would lose their minds (including me). So I feel like it'd be positive for ratings as well as for young girls to see two powerful women working together.
7. Million Reasons
This song is from Lady Gaga's latest album "Joanne." Singing "Million Reasons" would give the audience a chance to slow it down just briefly. In addition to a change of pace, it would also showcase Gaga's true vocal range.
8. Marry The Night
"Marry The Night" was the first track on Gaga's third album "Born This Way." It is a power ballad of sorts. Hearing her sing "Marry The Night" would also help display Gaga's vocal range. "Marry The Night" is probably my favorite Gaga video of all time, so I may be a little biased.
9. Papazzari
"Paparazzi" is one of Gaga's original hits and seeing her bring this song back on a global stage would be breathtaking. I've always loved this video so seeing her recreate it live is literally a dream come true.
10. Applause
I am somewhat upset with myself that there was only room for one song from "ARTPOP" on this list. I already believe this album is underappreciated but I had to put the hits on the list. Nonetheless, if there is only gonna be one song from "ARTPOP" on the setlist, it should be "Applause." Honestly, what better way to close an already iconic performance with an iconic set of hits than with "Applause?"
If it were a fan favorite setlist, it would be completely different, however, we must please the masses and I think this setlist is the best way to do that!
