Going back home for winter break can be an odd situation. Old friends help old memories to resurface, and things you left back in high seem to come flooding back as if it were yesterday. The joys of college and freedom seem to be part of some distant reality as you sleep in your old bed at home under your parents' roof. Time in your hometown seems to have stood still while you were gone, and you seamlessly integrate back into your old life and leave your college life back at school.
For some it can be hard to go back home and abandon what you built up at school; for others it can be relieving to get away from schoolwork and relax.
Regardless, we all seem to miss home in some way when we are forced to go back to college for spring semester.
Here are 10 reasons I am not ready to go back to school, as told by SpongeBob.
1. Coming home and having your parents pay for things and finally feeling like you have some extra cash
During winter break
After winter break
2. Realizing that going back to school means you are going to hop on the struggle bus all over again
*shudders*
3. Going back to school is the equivalent of returning to weeks of sleep deprivation
All-nighters at home are filled with food, fun, and Netflix, while those back at school are full of pain, tears, and work.
4. The stress of forgetting to do an assignment until the last minute
Being home allows you to relax your mind with no schedule and no real responsibilities. Sure, you help out your mom and pick up siblings from activities. Maybe you help cook dinner and take out the trash. But nothing at home has a 12:01 a.m. deadline with stress-induced fear and panic.
5. Having to leave your pets
My dog may or may not be the number one reason I come home.
6. Going back to professors that are just downright crazy
Professors that are ridiculously meticulous or overly opinionated when grading work are the bane of a student’s existence.
Or getting the one professor who just is not understanding about anything
Or the professor that just assumes you already know everything
7. Dining hall food
Let's be real and honest, dining hall food is just bad and nothing compares to your mom’s cooking.
8. Having to sit through boring classes
Does anyone actually care about calculus 5000 or Basket Weaving 202?
9. Pop quizzes
No explanation needed.
10. Leaving your best friend from home and your family, no matter how crazy or weird they are
There is no place like home.
While going back to school can seem daunting, at least we get to see friends and get back into our typical routine. In the meantime, I’ll be avoiding going back to school by burying myself in the sand.
