10 Reasons Elon University is an Amazing School

As a freshman I am so glad I made the decision to come to Elon University. When I was applying there were so many things that attracted me to the institution. Here are some things that make Elon so amazing:

  1. The campus is beautiful. So many gorgeous buildings and amazing grounds with plenty of greenery and flowers. Students will often work outside on the grass or on tables around campus. During the fall and spring it is always so nice outside. Even on a yucky day, Elon’s perfect for taking pictures!
  2. The school is always trying to improve. Recently, there was an addition to the School of Communications with improved facilities. Also, a Historic Neighborhood common building is in the works of being built. You should want to attend an institution that is always trying to make itself better.
  3. Student teacher relationships are important. You will able to contact your teacher and set up a time to meet with them. You can ask them for advice or help with an assignment. They are there for you!
  4. Small classroom sizes = engaged learning. Students will be able to know everyone in their classrooms and be able to ask questions if you don’t understand something.
  5. Engaged Learning Requirements: Internship, Undergraduate research, Study abroad, Leadership, Global engagement. Each Elon student is required to complete two. Requiring students to be more engaged and involved ultimately benefits them in the long run. These requirements help you as a student but also will help you in future employment.
  6. Extracurricular transcript: Most students are really involved. It is great to be able to hand a possible employer everything you have done outside the classroom. Not every school does something like this.
  7. Student Professional Development Center: They help you from trying to find your career to building your resume to setting up mock interviews. They really prepare you for the real word. Also, the faculty can put you in great contact with alumni who can help you get internships which could possibly lead to a job.
  8. So many extracurriculars to get involved in. You can do Greek Life or Elon Volunteers, club sports, acapella, Elon News Network. In Elon Volunteers you can volunteer with puppies or children. If you are competitive about sports intramural or club sports would be good for you. If we don’t have it you can make it! There is something for everyone Elon.
  9. Elon is not too big but not too small. You will see friendly faces around campus but you will always run into someone new. Take advantage of meeting new people. It is not what you know it is who you know!
  10. Always something to do everyday of the week. There are so many option for you to do even for the school breaks. You are never bored at Elon. There is always some fun activity going on on campus through an organization and a lot of opportunities to get free food which you should take advantage of.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
