Connecticut, The Nutmeg State, the Constitution State, the Land of the Vineyard Vines Whale. A place where people come to witness beautiful scenery, good food, and moderately traditional customs that literally scream "New England". If you're not from Connecticut or are just passing through, here are some common phrases you might hear if you're right in the thick of some CT civilians.
1. "Be careful on the Merritt, there's construction between exits 38 and 44."
If you're from Connecticut, you know that this state is constantly doing roadwork at the worst times of day.
2. "Vineyard Vines is having a sale! All of their stuff is .000004% off!"
While not all Connecticut natives wear the holy Whale, some people really enjoy the pastel way of life.
3. "Did anyone catch the UCONN game last night?"
UCONN is the gem of Connecticut. While there are so many great schools in Connecticut, everyone is connected to UCONN in some way or another.
4. "Do you know if Stew Leonard's is busy today? Is the ice cream machine working?"
Stew's most famous grocery store. There's nothing else to say.
5. "I have to take my kids to soccer practice, then piano lessons, then SAT tutoring, voice lessons, and then CCD."
Connecticut is the birthplace (not confirmed) of Soccer Moms. Kids from CT are notorious for doing six million different things in one day.
6. "Everyone says we can't drive but really it's New York and Massachusetts that are the problems."
For some reason, people from every state think that they're the best drivers and every other person is awful. This isn't really a proven fact, but everyone's pretty bad in every state I've ever been to.
7. "Did you know "Gilmore Girls" is based off a town in Connecticut? No? Okay well, it was and...."
Stars Hollow is based off of a small town in Connecticut, so that's a big source of pride here.
8. "My father went to UCONN... and so did my mother...and my sister...and my sister's friend...and my sister's friend's dog...."
You'll know someone, I promise.
9. "Every field trip I've ever had was historical."
The Constitution State is very proud of its history. There are so many historical sights around the state that every elementary and middle school field trip was at one of those places.
10. "It's okay that you passes that Dunkin' Donuts because according to Google Maps there's one just .0000000001 miles away from here, honey."
Connecticut is the state for coffee lovers.
So, if you're familiar with some of these, you'll fit right in. Welcome to Connecticut.
