Ten Facts of Kat

Random facts about me to hopefully show a little of the brain behind the words.

Ten Facts of Kat
My own.

I am sure that many, if not all, readers wonder at some point who wrote that book, that song they love, that idea they heard, and myself included. In the day of social media it is easier to see who the author is, but not necessarily who they are. Social media accounts are catered to what viewers want. Rarely do people post about who they are as people. Who is the mind behind those brilliant songs and words that haunt you long after you read or hear them? What makes them tick, what do they like to eat?

With that in mind, here are ten facts about me that may, or may not, provide insight as to who I am. Enjoy!

Number 1:

I love cats, even though I don't have the present blessing of being the servant of one. I want to own two, a Siamese and any black cat, named Howl and Slepnir or Loki.

Number 2:

I am a writer, with a focus on novels and story telling. But I'm also interested in cosmetology and owning a coffee bookshop.

Number 3:

Books are life and life is books. Reading is like breathing. If I'm don't read for more than one day I wonder what on earth I did with my life, even if I got a ton of stuff done. When I'm not reading I'm either thinking of plots or writing, and vice versa.

Number 4:

I'm a libra, even though I don't put much belief into horoscopes. I'm diplomatic (or I try to be), I don't like conflict, and I tend to observe a group rather than try to be the centre of attention.

Number 5:

I love nature and being outside. Trees are the best and I love to garden (weeding is the most satisfying thing ever). If it comes to sitting inside reading or reading outside, I'll go outside- that is, if it's warm enough. If it's not and it's raining or cold I curl up by the fire with a book or notebook.

Number 6:

I'll listen to anything, but my favourite music genres are alt rock/indie, classical, instrumental, and film scores. They're the best for writing inspiration, reading, or just chilling.

Number 7:

I love history. Any history, even though the more recent history is a little boring (to me personally). My favourite time period is from about the 12th century to the mid 19th century. I know that's a big space, but I love that space for different reasons. So many fascinating things happened, and I am continuously astounded that humans have survived as long as we have.

Number 8:

Mountains and the sea are the best. Because of that, I see myself living on the west side of either Washington or Oregon. I get the best of both worlds.

Number 9:

Paaaaaasta!!! I love pasta, or any sort of bread product, more than words could describe! Given the choice between pasta or salad it will almost always be pasta. Or noodles. So it's a good thing I chose to go to school in Italy.

Number 10:

I can't selfie for anything. Not in the typical selfie style anyways. But that doesn't mean I don't try. Every few hundred pictures I get a keeper.

Bonus: Rain is the best weather for anything. Walks outside, reading, writing, watching movies... Rain has a special sort of inspiration to it.

So there you go. A few facts that I hope provide some insight as to who the person is behind the words.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
