Ten things to do in Emporia, Kansas this summer.
1. Cool yourself off with a tasty snow cone from Traci's Shaved Ice!
For as little as two dollars, you can treat yourself to, in my opinion, the BEST snow cones in the state.
2. Take a trip to Bird Bridge.
Rumor has it, if you go to Bird Bridge at night, you can hear screams and see a ghost walk to shore. It's supposedly the woman whose car was pushed off the bridge by her husband and his mistress
3. Stop by J's Carryout for a burger, fries, and ice cream.
J's is a family owned, little dine in or carryout restaurant where you get treated like family and served with hot and delicious food. Have a sweet tooth? J's satisfies it with free soft serve ice cream with every meal.
4. Go Disc Golfing!
Have you ever seen those weird metal baskets all around Emporia and wonder what the heck they were for? It's a Disc Golf basket! Emporia is home of the nationally know disc golf store Dynamic Discs. Stop by their store on Commercial Street and I guarantee you will be welcomed into the sport, no matter your level. Stop by Jones, Peter Pan, or any of the other number of parks with courses!
5. Walk around campus and Wooster.
Sometimes, we take our university for granted and forget how lucky we are to call this place home. Take time to stroll around campus and see all the beautiful sights. Often times, we are so focused on getting to and from class that we forget to stop and look around.
6. Stroll down Commercial Street.
Commercial Street has the perfect amount of entertainment and relaxation all within the span of one street. Stop by Orange Leaf to cool off, Studio 11 to do some shopping, or Brown's to treat yourself to some new kicks.
7. Get up early and travel to Commercial Street Diner.
Guarantee you will leave full, happy, and with a box of leftovers. Their stacks of pancakes are to die for.
8. Get some fantastic sushi for a steal!
The lunch special at Shangri-La Sushi and Teriyaki is well worth every penny. You won't get more quality sushi for their steal of a price!
9. Go on a picnic.
Emporia is an older town, so that means all the parks have huge, shady trees, making them perfect picnic spots. Pack a lunch, blanket and a book and enjoy nature.
10. Visit our historic sights.
Emporia is the founding city of Veteran's Day and is also the place where William Allen White resided. Our little town has so much history, be proud and educate yourself!
Emporia, Kansas has been my home for the past year and I couldn't love it any more than I already do. Everything about Emporia makes me so proud to say where I go to school and how much I love it. This college has so much support from the town as a whole and makes my college experience even more enjoyable. Stingers up, Emporia!
