There comes a point in everyone's life where they feel invincible. For me, I still feel pretty good about taking on anything and everything that comes my way. Yes, I may stumble a bit, but I always get back up and keep fighting. Most of the time, I will be fighting even harder than I was before. With this mentality, I have found myself piling on the workload. It has become such a habit that I don't even notice saying yes when I should be saying no. I know I'm not alone! These are some of these confessions I have about being a work-a-holic and see if you are one too!
1. What was I thinking?
I can't count how many times I end up thinking to myself how I got into all this and why I thought it would be a good idea.
2. I don't even have time to eat, sleep, or breathe!
My Freshman year of college literally felt like I had no time to do anything but work and more work. Since then, I have been able to fit in a few social occasions, another job, school and a relationship. But oh, wait, still more work.
3. When I do have time off, it's not really free time.
What is that word "free" time. Who gets that and where can I find some? That is what I want to know! When I am not at work or at school, I'm working on projects or papers for school.
5. I will add another extracurricular to my schedule if I believe it will benifit me in the long run.
Forget about the pain now if I can receive the benefits later, right? That's what I keep telling myself.
6. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming...
I am actually Dory. This is like a little motivational theme song that gets me through the days I just want to stay in bed and not do a thing.
7. I don't even realize I'm in over my head until it's too late.
Sometimes I get to the point where I don't know where to begin. The list of things I have to do becomes way too much and soon I feel like I'm drowning.
8. I've called my mom crying because I was so stressed out.
There's nothing like calling your mom to fix your problems! Generally, I hate crying and I very rarely ask for help. However, in times like these, you've got to call in the big guns.
9. I'm not a work-a-holic, I just have a lot going on.
Maybe I tell myself this so I feel better about being 20-years-old and not having a life. Most people my age are going out to parties and getting wasted/wasting their lives away. Well, here I am waitressing five nights a week after school and on the weekends, barely attending my sorority functions and juggling classwork, writing articles for various campus publications, and work-study. Perhaps I have become a work-a-holic.
10. No matter what I have going on, I will still squeeze in time for the people I care about.
In the movies, it's very common to see the successful businessman who has worked hard and achieved a very rich and luxurious life. However, more than likely he is lonely and has only found comfort and companionship with his work. I want to be successful, but not at the expense of my family and friends.
