Tegan Quin and Sara Quin recently released their eighth studio album, "Love You To Death," on June 3, 2016. They are in the midst of the initial phase of their 2016 worldwide tour and are performing in Oakland, CA on Oct. 1. After selling over 1 million albums, acquiring seven Gold certifications, receiving a one Double Platinum certification, earning three Juno Awards, getting two Polaris Prize nominations and winning a Grammy nomination, their 17-year career is far from over. Their musical style is constantly evolving and the musical duo is fearlessly exploring new musical avenues with every new album.
As a Tegan and Sara fan myself, I can firmly say that these two sisters have created revolutionary music; unapologetic and raw lyrics that capture the essence of human experiences and the human condition. They have helped fans like myself be comfortable with who we are and how we feel, by vulnerably exposing their innermost fears, desires, problems and triumphs through their music.
Through the art form of music, Tegan and Sara have united individuals of varying ages, different cultures, different religions and various minority groups, and have inspired the growth of a community of fans who are loyal listeners as well as open-minded individuals.
The need for human connection is growing ever-so-swiftly throughout the world. Due to the increase of technological forms of communication replacing the face-to-face contact that was experienced on a daily-basis a few decades ago, people are increasingly craving a sense of contact and community. Music has become an avenue for that thirst. Tegan and Sara's music concentrates heavily on relationships with others, lovers and the self, and unmercifully voices the struggles within these relationships.
Tegan and Sara have slowly evolved from an indie-folk singer-songwriter pair, to a synth-pop duo. Their fame has increased dramatically. From the raw lyrics and acoustic based style of their first album "Under Our Skin," to the edgy indie-rock vibrance of "Sainthood," and to the rich synth-pop infused "Heartthrob," the duo is considerably bolstering their genre resume and is undeniably scraping the edges of the concept a small group of musicians have -- flexibly easing the divide between genres.
Tegan and Sara are rebelliously shifting through musical genres and connecting fans through each new album, and are staying true to their core values. Prepare for an engaging and intellectual journey through their honest receptivity to the trivial moments they have experienced. You won't be disappointed.
