Technology Makes It Harder To Meet People In Real Life
Ian Barker

It's no secret that technology had aided humanity in staying connected to one another in some way or another. It used to be, you would have to write letters or go visit the person you wanted to talk to but with the digital age, all you have to do is send a text message. You don't even have to do that if you do not want to. You can simply go on Facebook and see what they have been up to lately. Digital stalking? Nope. When a person puts their business out to the public, anyone can look at it and this can quickly become dangerous because stalking is an actual thing. Luckily, we also have preventive measures like privacy settings. Now we can check up on someone without them even knowing we are which sounds kind of creepy when you really think about it.

So let us say hypothetically that the internet died, like the whole thing, no email, no Facebook, etc. Let us also say that all of the radio towers also died at the same time. So now you have no internet and no phone, but you want to talk to your grandma who lives 500 miles away, what do you do? Before the advent of messaging and even email, we had actual mail from a mailman, remember them? Back even further and you had communities that were close knit, everyone knew everyone's business and no one lived more than a mile or two away but when technology like email was invented, it allowed people to move away further and further. If there ever was a technological crisis like the one I theorized we would all be screwed. Honestly, I would be screwed if I ever had to go to jail for some strange reason because I have 0 numbers memorized that also goes for street addresses. I would even argue that an unintended consequence of social technology has been that it has made us all a bit shyer and awkward. I am guilty myself of playing with my phone in awkward social situations.

Some people have no trouble making friends and striking up a conversation with a stranger and I envy those people because I am not. Sometimes it is good to just unplug yourself for an hour or two, go for a walk or something. I hiked 6 miles last weekend and it was a very enjoyable experience granted I still used my phone to listen to music but whatever that doesn't count. The moral of the story is, stop reading this, get off of the computer and go memorize some phone numbers and street addresses

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
