To The Teachers Who Care

Part of your academic success can be attributed to your teachers. Now I'm not saying if you get an A on your exam it's because you had a good teacher. It might be because you had a good teacher, you studied a lot, did all of your homework, or maybe you were just lucky. There's different kind of teachers everywhere. You have enthusiastic teachers, boring teachers, relaxed teachers, and maybe those that just teach. Everyone knows there's the good and the bad.

We've all had awful teachers I'm sure at some point in our lives. Those teachers that just read off of slides, don't really teach you anything, and give you a ton of homework. They're not concerned with how much you learn or if you like the class. They don't care if you're struggling, they just go along anyways. They're more concerned with the class as a whole rather than you as an individual. They won't give their time, aren't willing to listen to you, and don't stray away from lecturing from slides. We've all had those teachers and honestly, it's awful. Yes, if you're a good student you might be able to deal with it and get a good grade anyways, but if the teacher doesn't care it's hard to do well. It's hard to feel like you have a chance or even feel like you've learned anything.

But enough with the bad teachers, I really want to talk about the good teachers. You know, those teachers who are so passionate about their subjects. Let's talk about the teachers who can look past the fact that there's four hundred people in the class and can see you as an individual trying to learn. Let's talk about the teachers who do more than read from PowerPoints, but instead strive to give you actual information that will be useful in life. The teachers who are willing to help you outside of class and strive to make you a better student. The teachers who want you to do well on exams, as opposed to making them as hard as possible. The teachers who want you to ask questions and work with others students.

Thank you to all the teachers out there who work to make us better students and in result, better people. Thank you for caring about me as a person and not just a number. Thank you for wanting me to learn as much as possible but also making that possible for me. Thank you for reviewing test information with us ahead of time and not giving me an unreasonable amount of homework because you know we're in other classes. Thank you for not thinking I'm stupid when I ask a question and for not making me feel stupid when I get something wrong. Thank you for being the kind of teacher we all want to have. Thank you for being the teacher that will teach me the most. Thank you for being the best kinds of teachers, the kind who care.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
