Any education major has heard it a million times:
"Don't go into that! It's way underpaid!"
While we hate people telling us this, we still know that it is true. However, our hearts and passions are much stronger than that. We aren't going into education for the money. We know that it is an extremely underpaid profession.
But that doesn't make it right.
Why is it that teachers are one of the lowest paid professions? I may be a little bit biased, but I believe that teachers are some of the most important people.
This may sound dramatic, but without teachers, there would be no other professions. I mean, there may be other ways to learn, but none as effective as teaching.
How would we get engineers, nurses, and doctors without someone to teach them? We wouldn't!
That's why, in my opinion, teachers should be paid much more. It's just not fair that those who teach children who go on to be astronauts, presidents, and physicists are paid so poorly that people discourage others from going into the profession.
Truly think about it. What would we do without teachers? How would children begin to learn? Parents do not have the time to teach children everything they need to know to go to college.
Teachers also need to be paid more, because they don't get to leave their work behind at the end of the day. Teachers spend their after school time grading papers, creating assignments, making lesson plans, and worrying about their students.
They are constantly learning and doing professional development to better their practices, and teach the best way possible. There are not many other professions that are continuously learning as they go.
It is not fair to expect so much from teachers, and pay them so little in return.
