Tattoos Are Not A Bad Thing

It's like a story but on your body

Tattoos Are Not A Bad Thing

I have gotten two tattoos over the course of the last eight months. All of which have meaning. But why is it that we get looked down upon for having tattoos? And why are we intensity labeled with the not most positive labels? Over the course of the last few years, people have become more accepting of the idea of tattoos and that's dope. However, we all still deal with weird looks and side comments.

Growing up I always knew I wanted tattoos and once I was 18 and I had money I went and got one. And before you ask, yes my parents are okay with them. Everyone has their own way of expressing themselves, mine just happens to be through tattoos and art work. Yours might be through coloring your hair tons of colors or creating screamo music, and maybe that's not what I would do but hey you do you.

I wish I could tell you how many times people tell me that I will have a tattoo on my body forever. Like, yes I am aware this ink is not leaving my body. Yes I know I am 18 and yes I will get old but if I'm going to get a tattoo I'm going to get it while I am young and willing to do these "reckless" acts. Maybe people don't like them and maybe some people think they are unprofessional, but I don't think you should have to change yourself for others to like you. I have a friend who wouldn't get a tattoo himself but doesn't mind I have some. At the end of the day are you going to let ink get in the way of being friends or nice to someone? I hope not.

Once I got to college I realized that 80% of my friends have tattoos, visible or not. In the second week of school I literally became friends with two guys because we had ink on our bodies. Almost every person I have met who has tattoos has a story to go with their tattoo and to me that's amazing. It's art. And who doesn't like art?

I guess what I am saying is that yes I'm sorry if my tattoos are something that you aren't into, but they are something I am into. It's art and they are small stories. And isn't the whole point of living to create stories and memories to share with others?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
