Time To Talk About "Fight Club"

“We are not special. We are not crap or trash, either. We just are. We just are, and what happens just happens.” — Chuck Palahniuk

Love is in the air.

And, if you're like me, the concept of having a Valentine is as easy to grasp as why Donald Trump still has people supporting him — or why Kanye is allowed to be on Twitter.

Nonetheless, since I've never been in "love" as I've mentioned in this article, I have to fill the void of the romantic section of my heart in other ways.

Movies.

I watch a lot of movies.

I mean if I can't experience life's beautiful wonders, I might as well watch people who do.

No...this isn't a "Top 10 Rom Coms You Need to See Right Now" article because we all can argue for days whether or not "Wall-E" can be constituted as a romantic comedy because let me tell you that is one hell of a love story. Or that we should stop romanticizing "500 Days of Summer" because, despite how much I love him, Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character was an ass.

This is an article about "Fight Club."

Shit.

Alright, alright, alright...I know, I know...I broke the first rule. But bear with me. What I have to say needs to be talked about.

First and foremost...if you liked the movie, read the book. It adds another layer of the story that will have you thinking "WTF just happend!?" Even if you only watched it for Brad Pitt's abs or Jared Leto's bleached hair...read the damn book.

Chuck Palahniuk, the author of "Fight Club," and many other jaw-dropping novels, is one of my favorites. There is just something about how he takes concepts that are so out there, so vulgar and so profound, and he crafts his words in such a way that makes them so beautiful.

There is a reason I started this article ranting about love and all that bullshit. Regardless of all the violence, cussing, and sweat "Fight Club," at times, can actually be...romantic?!

Although the love story between the two main characters is unconventional and a little inappropriate for the younger viewers out there, there is still a hint of romance embedded in the 2-hour and 31-minute flick.

There is one line in particular that really signifies the importance of the "romance" of the film as well as brings up an idea that we can all associate with.

" You met me at a very strange time in my life."

The last line of the movie. And what a line it is. This line encompasses the love story between the narrator and Marla Singer. My ultimate #goals if you will. And, as I mentioned before, although their love is a tad...unorthodox, we all can relate to this line in some way or another.

I mean, to put it in perspective, haven't we all met a potential romantic partner at the completely wrong times in our lives? When you weren't yourself? Or when you had a lot going on?

I know I have.

These types of relationships are important. Especially, when romance is involved because humans are so complex. And, to be frank, shit happens all the time in our lives. Whether we can control it or not.

But that's the interesting thing when it comes to love and romance. It doesn't matter. Love doesn't care what's going on, and it happens unexpectedly. From what I've seen, love takes no prisoners.

Maybe I'm talking out of my ass.

But maybe I'm not.

So, if you're looking for a nice romantic movie...give "Fight Club" a chance...but make sure you don't talk about it.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
