Just a few minutes ago, I had an entire article written out about politics and the current presidential candidates. It included facts, a pinch of my opinion and then each of the candidate's views on different issues. But I couldn't finish it because I don't talk about politics.
I don't talk about politics because it starts an argument.
Like any other very opinionated adult, I love a strong current events debate. I like seeing others' points of view and defending my own. But I can't stand closed-mindedness. I don't talk about politics because I find my self screaming at another person simply because they won't listen to my views. I end up arguing with this person so much just so they will agree to disagree with me. I don't talk about politics, because more often than not, I will hear them out, listen to their side and they will turn around and fight me on mine.
I don't talk about politics because it's all opinion.
I don't talk about politics because the issues are all solely based on opinions. So when I start a conversation about politics and we get talking about a current issue, it quickly becomes a question of character. More often than not, when speaking of certain topics, my character comes into question. My opinion on politics has a lot to say about the person that I am, I do believe that. However, "pro-choice" by no means is the equivalent to "pro-death."
I don't talk about politics because I won't change anyone's mind.
Arguing with another person about politics is great for a civil debate, but let's be honest, these types of conversations have a tendency to escalate. But no matter how long or how loudly I shout my opinions at another, they aren't going to change their mind. I don't talk about politics because people form their own opinions, and they stick to them.
But I do talk about politics.
I do talk about politics because I am not afraid to speak my mind on the issues. However, I do not look to start arguments. Talking about politics is so important for our generation, and at this time, considering that chaos of candidates running for President in 2016. I talk about politics with people who are willing to hear me out. They don't have to agree with me, but I would rather have an educated conversation with an open-minded person than a closed-minded person. I don't care if you disagree, but don't try to tell me my opinions are wrong because they aren't yours.
