If there's one thing I am absolutely certain of, it’s that I'm terrible at taking my own advice. I frequently let fear stop me from making life-changing decisions. But recently, I finally took my own advice and took a chance. I took a chance on someone special, I took a chance on myself, on uncertainty, on the possibilities the upcoming months might hold. I built up a lot of courage and confidence, and instead of saying no to what could be, I set my fears aside.
I realized that I didn't have to have everything planned out. I welcomed something new and something unpredictable. I knew that if I didn't I would regret it and would have wondered about all the should'ves and could'ves.
I learned that sometimes the best things in life come when you least expect them. You can either walk away or embrace them. And if you choose the latter, you will feel emotions you forgot you ever once felt. You will feel like a new person, someone you don't even recognize. By taking chances you’ll change for the better. You’ll learn more about yourself and what you want, and discover more than you could’ve anticipated.
Countless people will tell you that life is about taking risks; that to truly live, we must be willing to risk. If we let fear of the unknown take control of our lives, we never fully experience what life has to offer. Creating new memories, finding happiness, embarking on adventures, discovering new passions; there’s so much more to life than being afraid.
In the lyrics from my favorite movie right now, “La La Land,”
"Someone in the crowd could be the one you need to know.”
If you don’t take a chance, you’ll never know what could be. Life is full of uncertainty and we cannot predict nor plan everything that meets us in our path. Of course, I’ll have to keep reminding myself to not let fear dictate my decisions, but until then take a chance on something, on someone, or on yourself. I promise that your life shines a little brighter after.
Thank you to the one who took a chance on me and for all the lovely nights.
