Society is so damaged nowadays. The rising walls that are being put into place separating race, religion, political parties, and other communities, are we even one whole anymore? Or are we just multiple societies living in one common world? We are told that we need to choose one aspect over another instead of being able to accept the variety as one.
But let’s scale the world down even more.
Let’s scale it down to the individual person. Almost all our lives we are told how to live our lives, or how to act in front of certain people. We are told what’s in style and what’s not. We are told whom we can love and whom we cannot. Society sets up all these rules and boundaries for us before we can even figure out who we are as ourselves. But who’s to say that we want to follow these preset guidelines? Who’s to say that someone besides us has control over all of this?
There’s such an ample amount of people in this cold world that will change who they are just to be loved or accepted by another person or group. It’s almost heartbreaking that we must conform to such ways of life. But it’s almost heartbreaking because we don’t have to follow the rest of society. We don’t have to change who we actually are as beautiful individuals just to please others. We were made originals. We were made to be our own person with our own identity even though sometimes people seem to want to strip that from us. We make our own choices.
We all have flaws. No one is perfect. Not everyone is meant to like us and not everyone is meant to share the same values that we do. We can’t all be straight, or gay, or bisexual, but we can all love who we want. We can’t all black, or white, or one specific race, but we can all be who we were born to be. I’ve learned over the years that the only person someone can truly be is his or her own self. We need to stop trying to please the public eye and the individuals that prowl around us, but rather please ourselves.
People will despise you, and people will critique you’re every motion, but let me ask you something. Can they say that they are not the ones wearing a mask? Can they say that they are open and free to be who they wish at no ones demand? Maybe. Or maybe not.
We need to stop changing. Stop revamping. Stop shedding our originality to blend with a sea of similarity. And start being us.
Society will never alter all at once, and it will never be on the same page as whole, but someone has to make the push to allow those hiding to feel safe. Safe to be them once more.
People may not like who I am. They make not like the way I speak up for what I believe in, but at least I can say that I’m being who I am.
Take it or Leave it.
Stop blending.
Start being weird, dying your hair a funky color, sharing you feelings, loving who you want, loving yourself, accepting others. Just start and stay being yourself.
You’re too beautiful to be anyone else but yourself and if others can’t accept that or don’t appreciate your true beauty inside & out, they can also...
Take it or Leave it.
A reminder to one of the strongest girls I have ever had the pleasure of being best friends with. You are beautiful no matter what you go through Rebecca.
