I'm currently beyond obsessed with the musical" Hamilton," something I know many people claim to be. I listen to the soundtrack pretty much every waking moment. In one song, Eliza Hamilton is singing to her husband, Alexander, about how he needs to take a break. The line goes, "Take a break and get away."
While this line is seemingly meaningless (not in the musical, but that's a different story), it got me thinking a lot.
Take a break and get away.
With a new semester starting, all anyone can focus on are classes, homework, studying, and perfecting that GPA. Sure, that fad starts dying away as the semester continues on, but the stress stays. And, the first big break from school doesn't come until Spring Break, all the way in March. How in the world can you take a break without actually getting away from your campus and all the stress of school?
Take a drive. Read your favorite book in a coffee shop. Watch a few seasons of a Netflix show. Life doesn't have to go: wake up, classes, lunch, classes, studying, dinner, studying, sleep and repeat. Taking a break is important.
Take a break and get away.
Relationships. That's the next thing on everyone's mind. Friendships, significant others, family, you name it. We constantly worry about where a relationship is going or ruining a relationship or the stress of keeping a relationship running smoothly. And sometimes, we need to take a break from that as well. Focus on the good things happening in a relationship. Stop worrying about everything.
So have a girls night with your best friends. Get your nails done and gossip while doing it. Catch up on each other's lives and stop stressing about things that are changing. Just enjoy the company for a bit.
Take a break and get away.
This line is such a small line, but it hold so many true meanings. We all need a little break from life sometimes, especially when life is crazy. We need to stop feeling guilty about taking breaks and detaching from life for a while. Going off the radar for a little bit shouldn't be seen as such a bad thing. Take some time to do you and take care of yourself. Put yourself first and take that break that I know you need so desperately. Stop trying to save everyone, and save yourself. Do the things you need to do to make your life the best it can be.
Take a break and get away.
