Take What You Need

Whatever you need to hear, I'll say it.

Sometimes we just don’t hear what we need.

Take If You Need: “I’m proud of you.”
You are trying so hard, and I am so proud of you. I know sometimes trying is hard, and you are killing the game. You’ve been pushed down, but you keep getting back up. All of the plans you have and all of the things you have accomplished are just a testament of your hard work. You are doing so well, and I am so proud of you.

Take If You Need: Courage.
It’s not easy to be brave and do the things that scare us, but they are so worth it. Everything we want is on the other side of fear. It’s always better to try and fail, then to never try at all and be left to wonder what could have been. Take a deep breath, close your eyes and go.

Take If You Need: “It’s okay to cry.”
My shoulder is always here for you. It’s okay to be overwhelmed -- to be upset. You have to allow yourself to be vulnerable. Let it out, and you’ll feel better afterward. Don’t be ashamed, it’s part of human nature. You can’t let everything bottle up. I know that’s hard -- I promise I understand. It’s more than okay to take this time to let it all out and to focus on yourself. It’s okay to cry, I promise. Just make sure to drink a lot of water!

Take If You Need: “You’re beautiful.”
You always hear people say, “God broke the mold with you.” I hate that saying. There is no mold. We are all so wonderful and unique our own ways and that makes us beautiful. Your tiger stripes? Fierce. Your love handles? Glorious. Everything about you is gorgeous. Hold your head high and walk with pride. You are beautiful.

Take If You Need: Faith.
James 1:6 - "But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind." You must be strong, and stand for the things you believe in.

Take If You Need: “I’m sorry.”
I might not be the one you need to hear it from, but sometimes you can’t get an apology from the one who needs to give it. Forgiveness is the hardest gift to give sometimes. Some things just seem unforgivable. Being the bigger person isn’t easy, but it is the most rewarding. You deserve everything in the world, and you shouldn’t waste your precious time being angry about something someone else did to you. It’s best to try and forgive and move on. So, if it helps to hear it, I’m sorry.

Take If You Need: A hug.
I wish I could physically wrap you up and take away all of your pain and sadness, but this will have to do for now. I’m sending all of my love your way.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
