Ever since the beginning of my school career, I have always associated summer with freedom. When summer finally arrived, I felt free from the weighing pressure and responsibility that school brought on and as if I could finally take a breath. This became even more so as I advanced into school all the way up to now, as I have successfully completed my first year of college. Throughout the year, as the exams, papers, work and tasks piled up, all I could think of was getting a break from it all.
With summer here, this couldn’t be truer. I naturally want to deflect all responsibilities and hard work from my life, in order to feel a coming-down calmness from a year full of work and anxiousness. However, I realize that as my stress continues to build as my difficulty in schooling does, I also realize that my life is continuously passing me by. Being young is all us young adults have ever known, so we tend to forget that we’re only getting older. Summer may be interpreted as a break for most of us, but we need to start thinking of it as our chance to embrace our youth without the extra pressures of life we usually find ourselves facing. Therefore, here are some tips to help take full advantage of the summer
Put The Technology Away
Technology is very tempting and is a dangerous tool used in order to escape the real world and engage in something inauthentic. However, summer is a time to get out and live. Turn off the screen time and experience more.
Get Outdoors
The months we get in summer can be taken for granted, but there is truly no better time to be outdoors and see the sights. Figure out the best local hikes or swimming holes, or just find your happy place. You won’t regret the feeling that comes from exploration.
Splurge On Once In A Lifetime Events
Summer is the perfect time for music festivals, fairs, concerts, and all sorts of events. These, of course, cost money. When you see the huge dollar sign next to an event, don’t be afraid. Splurge on what you can, because the receipt may be painful but the memories will be priceless.
Make Time For Friends
Having so much free time for the first time in months means more time for the things you missed out on during school. This can mean catching up with old friends for the first time in a while. Don’t dodge the opportunity to spend time with those close to you, or even meet new friends. Summer is full of potential if you only open yourself up to it.
Do Something For The First Time
I cannot stress this one enough. Life is made for experiences and new happenings. Go on a road trip to somewhere you’ve never been, try a new food, learn a new skill, anything spontaneous that will lead you into new territory is a chance worth taking, and it will make for a summer well-taken advantage of.
Here’s to Summer 2016, and making it the best yet.
