For all you freshman that are preparing for your very first tailgate here are the do’s and don’ts of the beloved pregame ritual. Notice, there are more do's than don'ts.
1. DO dress warm…but in layers.
Tailgating season usually marks the beginning of fall, and with fall comes cooler weather. Tailgates usually start earlier in the morning when dew is still on the ground and the air is below freezing, and end mid afternoon with the sun. Starting out with something simple and cute like a long sleeve paired with a vest, skinny jeans, and boots makes it easy to stay warm in the morning and cool in the afternoon by ditching the vest.
2. DON'T wear new shoes.
While being cute may be important, ruining a nice new pair of shoes is definitely not worth it. A good durable, dependable pair of worn in shoes will do just the trick.
3. DO take advantage of the free food.
I can't count the number of times I have forgotten to eat before a tailgate. While 90% of the time you will be busy doing other pre-game activities rather than worrying about food, free food will always save the day. Indiana State University's Student Union provides a free meal if you swipe your student ID.
4. DO make sure you have a Designated Driver if you are under the influence.
I cannot express how important this is. If you are under the influence (especially underage drinkers) PLEASE make sure you have a safe way home. Not only does no one want to baby sit a drunk individual, no one wants to see anyone under the influence injured.
Happy Tailgating, Sycamores!
