The 2019 Superbowl's Halftime Show And Boring Game Takes The Trophy For Being The Worst In A Decade
A game without a touchdown until the fourth quarter and a halftime show without much flair was a formula for a ratings disaster.
The numbers are in, and Super Bowl LIII was the worst Super Bowl in over a decade with a household rating of 41.1. The last Super Bowl with a lower rating was Super Bowl XXXVII between the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a rating of 40.7.
Without a doubt, most people who spent their time on Sunday night watching the Super Bowl did not enjoy the action. I would even go as far to say that some Patriots fans did not enjoy the game, despite winning it all. I personally did not enjoy the Super Bowl one bit, especially as an avid NFL enthusiast, so I cannot even imagine how boring the game was for non-NFL fans who felt an obligation to watch.
I watched every single postseason game this year, and I can guarantee that the Super Bowl was the least exciting out of all of them. If only the Chiefs made it through for a rematch against the Rams, because the Rams vs Chiefs game in the regular season was the best game I have seen in years, ending 54-51 Rams.
In the entire first half, only three points were scored, and the only touchdown of the entire game came in the 4th quarter. Neither team was able to get any offense going, and neither Jared Goff or Tom Brady threw a single touchdown. The Rams literally punted eight times to start the game. They have not even punted more than seven times in a game all year.
I am not complaining, because one of these punts was the longest punt in Super Bowl history, my highlight of the game. Thank you Johnny Hekker, for getting that lucky bounce and an extra 20 yards. I don't think I need to say anymore to paint the grim picture of a measly 13-3 final score.
Plus, the halftime show was a massive failure. Maroon 5 has gotten a bit outdated, the Travis Scott performance was very short and uninteresting, and I love Big Boi and OutKast, but Big Boi really did not do much onstage. I basically sat through the entire halftime with no emotions at all, as if I was not bored enough by the uneventful first half of the big game.
In addition, many Sponge-Bob fans are upset that the NFL teased the "Sweet Victory" for a few seconds when in reality it was bait for a transition from Maroon 5 to Travis Scott. Seriously, NFL? And if you think my opinion of the poor execution of the halftime show is unpopular, the upload of it on YouTube currently has seven times as many dislikes as likes. So there's that for your affirmation.
Seriously, in my opinion, this is the worst Super Bowl I have ever seen, and I've watched the last 10. Maybe we could have a team from the AFC besides the Patriots next year in the Super Bowl to spice things up.
