A Letter To My Professor
The Journalism school here at the University of Kansas is known for some of the most amazing professors at the school. Professor Benson is surely no exception.
Dear Professor Benson,
First off I want to say thank you.
Thank you for the amazing lectures to an attentive class of 170 students.
Teaching about the concepts of Strategic Communications and why us Strat Commies need to also understand the principles of Marketing can be a difficult task. However, you accomplished it.
You accomplished this task with grace and amazing skill.
You knew exactly how to engage us students and how to make us actually enjoy a lecture on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
You never failed to make us laugh either.
I will always remember when you had a student call her grandmother to see if she truly enjoyed doing the students laundry.
Or when you would remember funny things that we said and bring them up in a later lecture.
You not only were a great and funny professor, but you were also an inspirational one.
You made sure to make personal connections with every single one of us in Journalism 320: Introduction to Strategic Communications.
You knew all 170 of us by name by the second or third week of spring semester classes.
When we didn't show up to class one day, you would notice and make sure that we were okay the next time that you saw us.
You are one of the best professors and teachers that I have ever had.
You made every single lecture fun by showing us fun YouTube videos or brand ads and asking us to analyze them.
One of my favorite things that you did in J320 was when we would answer a question you would ask us to analyze our answer even deeper. Not only did this help us learn it helped us think more critically.
Even as beginning students you would had us think like professional strategic communicators.
I will continue to use the skills that I learned in this class throughout the rest of my college career, I guarantee it.
Once again thank you for being one of the most fantastic and inspirational teachers that I have ever had. I will always remember the lessons taught in this class and always remember how much you cared about each and every single one of your students.
I hope in the future I will be able to have you as a professor for another class one day.
To the best Journalism Professor at the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications, Professor Benson you absolutely ROCK!
Sincerely,
Your J320 Student
