Karamo Brown- Culture
GiphyKaramo's is the Culture expert of the Fab Five, therefore what he does for the heroes on the show costs absolutely nothing once they leave. Karamo teaches the heroes to be brave, strong, bold, courageous, confident, beautiful, etc (I really could keep going). When the Fab Five is in town Karamo usually does something with the hero to try and prove to them that they can overcome whatever it is that is holding them back and yes that usually does cost money but it is paid for by the show and it is a life lesson that has a much deeper value. Karamo's knowledge, advice, and wisdom is something that everyone needs and it is definitely not setting anyone up for failure or a life they cannot afford- everyone deserves to take time for themselves and Karamo teaches each person that.
Bobby Berk- Home Design
GiphyBobby Berk is the Interior Designer of the Fab Five, he has a week to flip a hero's home into something they'll love and find peace and comfort in. Yes, a home is a lot of upkeep and redoing a home is expensive but again this is paid for by the show and most of the time Bobby and his team do all of the work to flip a house. When Bobby goes into a hero's home he does not try to get rid of everything they have accomplished and make something he wants, he tries to give them a sanctuary they can fall in love with and relax in. After the Fab Five has left all a hero has to do is maintain the home by keeping it clean and add any final touches that they want to add if they even want to add anything! Bobby Berk teaches the heroes how to take a space and make it their own fun, loving, creative environment.
Antoni Porowski- Food & Wine
GiphyAntoni is the food and wine expert of the Fab Five, he teaches the hero's how to prepare meals for themselves and their families. Most of the time Antoni takes a hero to a local grocery store/market or a restaurant so they can experience local food and something similar to what they are going to make at the end of the week. One of Antoni's biggest beliefs is that food brings people together- because it does! We all know that shopping fresh and organic is more expensive than just going to a regular grocery store to get food, but when the Fab Five is in town it is a special week and things are taken seriously; that is why Antoni makes sure to pamper the hero's with good food. Not only does Antoni teach them how to prepare meals, he helps them fall in love with cooking and eating a meal prepared at home. Everyone should know how to cook at least one or two things and that is all Antoni is trying to teach the heroes.
Jonathan Van Ness- Grooming
GiphyJonathan Van Ness is the grooming expert of the Fab Five and is in charge of all the makeovers- from hair to makeup to beard. When JVN meets a hero he immediately goes for the hair or beard. Jonathan's job isn't to change a person's look completely, but to show what they may have been hiding. He doesn't expect people to go to the salon every day/week/month for upkeep on their new haircut because they might not have been doing that before- he gives them something simple that they can maintain but it also brings out their best self. As far as their skincare routine, Jonathan makes sure to find products that work for the person he is working with and he does not get the most expensive thing; most of the products can be found in places like Target or WalMart (I know because I use them!).
Tan France- Fashion
Tan France is the fashion expert of the Fab Five, he is in charge of the clothes the heroes wear. Clothes are expensive, we all know this- even Tan knows this. When Tan is shopping with a hero he makes sure to find something that goes along with their style and body so that they don't feel like a stranger in the outfit they are wearing, but he almost always adds a French Tuck as a finishing touch. Tan makes sure to take the heroes shopping at places they can afford not places he wants them to shop at or places that are way out of budget. There have been episodes where Tan has taken a hero to Target or clothes from H&M have been brought in. Tan proves that it is all about how you style things, not about how expensive they are.
Basically, Jonathan must be protected at all cost! He's currently learning to ice skate (he's obsessed with ice skaters and felt it was necessary he learn) and you can follow his journey on his Instagram. He's giving Tonya Harding a run for her money! He also tells his followers to treat themselves on a day to day basis, so I'm broke because of him.
This season of "Queer Eye" he is even better! He's personable, relatable, and fierce. This season you see all 5 five confident and comfortable in their roles! Jonathan has been comfortable since day one of the show, but I think this new found fame has helped him become more fierce (his shoes are to die for every episode). Also, his hair skills have gotten even better! Jonathan's segment on the show is my favorite because that's where you see the real difference.
Immediately being introduced to Jonathan on the first season you instantly know you want to be best friends with him. He's positive and the best hype man you will ever meet! But not only that he is well educated and inclusive of all people. We are ready to stan a woke-queen. Jonathan also educates those who aren't educated in a respectful way! They do hit very controversial or taboo topics, but you never see an argument break out. That's because Jonathan is willing to hear people out and then hit them with the facts (but in a real sweet Jonathan way.)
I'm sure everyone has their favorite Fab 5 member, but this is an appreciation to Jonathan only (for now). Also, he loves "Game of Thrones," so obviously we have to stan him! He is best known for his youtube series "Gay of Thrones" where he discusses the latest episode of GOT with random people and even celebrities. "Getting Curious" is also a podcast he hosts, so there's always Jonathan content out there. I can't wait to see what his next venture is! The possibilities are endless for this queen!
Plus, who doesn't love a good ranking?
8. Episode 7: "Sloth to Slay"
I feel awful ranking this episode as my least favorite, but the other seven episodes were simply better. Thomas and his sister were adorable, their story really resonated with me, and I was happy to see how Thomas progressed. However, this episode just didn't have that tear-jerker moment that "Queer Eye" fans know and love.
7. Episode 8: "Baby on Board"
GiphyI think I was extra let down by this episode because the season finales have been so good in the past, and this one just wasn't on par. The only reason this episode did not rank last for me was (spoiler alert) the proposal. The baking scene with Tony, his daughter, and Antony was definitely a highlight in this one too.
However, I still found this episode to be quite boring. I was also furious that Tony shaved his beard after Jonathan did such a great job cleaning it up! The horror in JVN's eyes as he watched Tony shave in the playback broke my heart.
6. Episode 5: "Black Girl Magic"
GiphyThis was another great episode that got pushed to the bottom of my list due to the sheer greatness of the others. In the end, this episode really had some beautiful moments. Jess has such a beautiful soul and her bond that she formed with Bobby and Karamo was so special. Maybe this episode was missing the wow-factor for me because Jess was already a fashionable girl with pretty hair so the best the Fab Five could do was refine her beauty. That being said, this is definitely an episode you won't want to miss.
5. Episode 4: "When Robert Met Jamie"
I really enjoy any "Queer Eye" episode where the hero is really open to embrace the process and this was one of them. With the help of the Fab Five, Robert was really able to clean up his act just in time for his wedding. This episode also had my favorite work from Bobby for the season and one of my favorite makeovers from JVN. The wedding footage at the end was absolutely precious.
4. Episode 2: "Lost Boy"
GiphyI loved this episode because of the amazing transformations. Bobby, Tan and Jonathan really outdid themselves on this one. I didn't know how Tan would pull off dressing a guy that works outside for hours, in the summer, with children, but he pulled it off. I also really enjoyed watching the happy ending for Joey and his son.
3. Episode 6: "Elrod & Sons"
This episode has a lot of special moments, including the adorable scene where Antoni pretends to be a velociraptor with the Elrod boys. If I'm being honest here, this episode had me crying over and over again. My favorite scene of the entire season comes from this episode. That's right — I'm talking about the reveal of the chest that Bobby made to hold the memories of Alison (deceased mother and wife) with her handwriting from the boy's birthday cards engraved inside. Bobby really outdid himself there.
The scene with the storybook that had Alison's recorded voice reading to the boys was a close second for my favorite scene of the season.
2. Episode 1: From Hunter to Huntee
Let's be real, Jody's hair transformation is some of JVN's best work. I really loved everything about this episode, but her transformation really sealed the deal for me. Karamo's idea to bring Jody to a support circle to speak to other women was also very touching.
I'd say this was the most memorable episode of the season for sure.
1. Episode 3: Jones Bar-B-Q
I'd be willing to bet that this episode was the favorite of a lot of people. The Jones sisters were so humble, hard-working, lovable and sweet. It was so great to see the Fab Five help them find their confidence and the time to care for themselves. The scene where Shorty gets her teeth fixed is perfect for anytime you feel like having a good ol' ugly cry. Something tells me these ladies make a mean brisket and I intend to find out for myself someday.

Winter weather is my hair's vice.

We all could stand to laugh at ourselves a little bit more. Don't sweat the small stuff!

Come on girl, you know you're not sticking with that. Start small and go from there.

You mean I don't get to live the college life forever?!
