A System Of Friends

What the Solar System would look like if they were all a big group of friends.

A System Of Friends

In light of the most recent images of Pluto being taken, I thought it would be a nice idea to have a look at our good ol' Solar System again. Numbering to 10 major entities, they are all very different, but they all revolve together in what seems to be a peaceful rotation, as if they were that dysfunctional group of friends that so many of us can relate to. Well... maybe they are?

The Sun:

The large, hot headed friend. Everyone is slightly afraid of him, especially when he has flare-ups. Without him, though, the group would spiral into chaos, so they are relieved that he chooses to stick around.

Mercury:

He is one of the smallest in the group and undoubtedly the most annoying. He won't ever let down on the fact that he is the closest friend of The Sun and continually hits on Venus, which is to no avail, but entertaining for the rest of the group.

Venus:

No doubt, she is the most attractive friend in the group. However, besides the pointless attempts from Mercury, no one dares to to try to date her, as she is known for her toxic and somewhat harmful personality. She secretly has a crush on Mars, though.

Earth:

He is the perfect one. The straight-A student. Everyone wants to be like him due to his hospitable nature and his cool temperament, but they also loathe him out of jealousy. You could say he is quite "down to himself."

Mars:

The meat-head of the group. He arrogantly calls himself the "God of War," but he really just lifts a lot of weights and chugs protein shakes. In the process of all this, he ignores/misses all of Venus' attempts to woo him, much to her frustration.

Jupiter:

Jupiter is loved by all. He is the friendliest in the group and seems to relate to everyone. However, most of the group can't stop wondering about his abnormally large Red Dot. He claims that it's just genetic, but everyone knows that it appeared after the Christmas party a couple millenniums back when he was found hanging out with Saturn under the mistletoe.

Saturn:

She is the rich kid in the group. Her father is an extremely successful businessman and she isn't afraid to show it, especially with the ridiculously large amount of rings that she wears. She doesn't want to talk about the Christmas party and tries to avoid eye contact with Jupiter.

Uranus:

He is the misunderstood foreign exchange student of the group. Everyone makes fun of his name, but he can't really understand them in the first place, so he doesn't seem to care. He just goes with the flow.

Neptune:

He is the father figure of the group. Already rocking a long white beard at such a young age, he listens to everyone's problems and tries to give out his best advice. Much of it is unsuccessful anyways. He does hold a grudge against the rest of the group for what they did to Pluto though.

Pluto:

The outcast of the group and a hopeless romantic. They never really had a good reason to diss him in the first place, but he wasn't that fazed by it. With all that new time on his hands and his big heart, he finally can finish his romance novel.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
