Expectations Vs. Reality Of Syllabus Week

Expectations Vs. Reality Of Syllabus Week
buzzfeed

It’s one of the best weeks for college students; syllabus week. All we have to do is sit in a classroom for about 30 minutes and hear the professor talk about the class, which we barely listen to, and then we are free to do whatever we want! And once the weekend hits… Oh, you guessed it; time to turn up times 10! No responsibilities! Let’s go!

Now we return to your regularly scheduled reality.

Sorry to wake you from your fantasy, but for three out of five classes, that’s not what really happens on syllabus week.

Expectation: You sit in a classroom for a maximum of 30 minutes while the teacher quickly runs over the syllabus.

Reality: You sit in the classroom for the entire class time listening to the professor slowly ruin your semester with each word.

Expectation: The professor is done with explaining the syllabus and it’s time to go home early!

Reality: The professor is done with explaining the syllabus and it’s time to start the first lecture!

Expectation: “We won’t be meeting the entire time that your schedule says, that’s way too long."

Reality: “We will be here the entire class. Don’t even think about packing up until I dismiss the class”

Expectation: New class, who’s this? We have to do those icebreakers that everyone hates.

Reality: New class, who’s this? We have to do those icebreakers that everyone hates.

Sorry, that one really wasn’t a reality vs. expectation, it was just a reality we all have to deal with.

Tell me about it, Kendall!

Expectation: “No homework, guys! Go have fun this week(end)!”

Reality: “Go buy your expensive books before the next class and read 100 pages.” A.K.A., you have two days to buy a book and hope it’s not sold out, plus read the whole book.

Expectation: Wow! I really think I’m going to like this semester!

Reality: Wow! I really think I’m going to like to skip all my classes this semester!

(Don’t skip class unless you absolutely have to—you’re paying for it anyway!)

Now, there’s a good chance these realities only happen in a few of your classes, but they happen. We end up having some homework during syllabus week… but no worries, we always figure out a way to turn up before we can’t function from so much schoolwork.

Hope you all survived Syllabus week! Welcome back to another semester!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
