Syllabus Week, As Told By 'Portlandia'
Giphy

Ah, syllabus week: undoubtedly the best week of the semester. Homework, quizzes and exams are all non-existent during this week, and no trips to the library are necessary in the near future. To celebrate the wonderful gift of syllabus classes we are given, college students party enough to last the entire semester because why not? "Portlandia" always seems to know exactly what were thinking, and is willing to say whatever we are afraid to. "Portlandia" expresses the emotions that we keep in, except the emotions that are impossible to keep in when you think about a whole week of fun. That's just not something you can keep to yourself.

Driving back to campus after a month away from your friends, thinking about the upcoming week:

When you try to pick out the perfect outfit for the first night of the semester, but you might have made it just a little bit too edgy:

Promising yourself that you won't have too much to drink that night...

...but ending up like this shortly after:

Not really knowing what the protocol is when a cute boy offers to buy you a drink at the bar:

Lighting up the dance floor by busting out your funky moves that were hiding over winter break:

Waking up feeling like you are on the brink of death:

Replaying the nights' events in your head like:

Having to sit through an agonizingly boring, hour and a half long discussion on the syllabus in class the next morning:

Looking through all of the assignments on your class syllabus and realizing you will be living in the library for the next four months:

Contemplating going out for the fourth night that week because you're tired but don't want to miss out on the fun:

Deciding to stay in to catch up on your Netflix shows, then ending up watching an entire season of "Grey's Anatomy" in one night and turning into an emotional wreck:

When you see all of your friends' Snapchat stories and try to avoid serious FOMO:

Thinking back on a week filled with sugary drinks and late-night pizza:

Here's to one glorious week spent away from the library, may your nights be long and your classes be short. Happy Syllabus Week to all!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
