Valentine’s Day may have already passed but romance is still in the air. For the single girls who watched their roommates get ready for dates and saw their presents piling up while you sat alone watching Netflix, here are some movies with the best guys to get you through the post love fest funk. This is a compilation of the most swoon worthy movie characters of all time.
1. Austin Ames, A Cinderella Story
Nomad609 may start out kind of boring and predictable, but if you weren’t forever replaying that kiss in the rain, you watched this movie wrong. He is the “ideal” high school boyfriend and with good looks to boot.
2. Tom Lefroy, Becoming Jane
For anyone else obsessed with the world of Jane Austen, you’ll understand why James McAvoy’s portrayal of Tom Lefroy could sweep any girl off their feet. He can’t be with the girl he loves, in a time period in which being with her will affect not just them but their families too, and still does everything in his power to be with her. That’s not something you can find in real life and what makes him all the more loveable.
3. Johnny Castle, Dirty Dancing
Nobody puts baby in corner and no one, I mean no one, could forget Patrick Swayze dancing his way into Frances “Baby” Houseman’s heart. His character proved that love is strange and you can’t control the circumstances in which you find it. He also taught us that we should all choreograph our own lift with our very own boyfriend.
4. Jacob Palmer, Crazy Stupid Love
Refer to the lift scene above as explanation for why this character must be talked about. His abs, his clothes and his charm were plenty, but adding in his go-to move and it’s all over. Watching him flirt incessantly with women throughout the entire movie, particularly with Emma Stone’s character it’s hard to imagine any guy being that smooth, which honestly is part of his allure.
5. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, Top Gun
He’ll take your breath away from the minute he serenades Charlotte “Charlie” Blackwood with the help of his fellow pilots. Though he comes off as cocky and a bit of a rule breaker that actually makes him all the more appealing. Did I mention it’s Tom Cruise?
6. Andrew Paxton, The Proposal
Every time he opens his mouth you like him even more. Andrew may be pushed around by his boss to the point that he loses the respect of his own father, but he still keeps his cool and manages to show kindness to the woman who has made his life a living hell. That and the witty banter he shares with his boss/fiancé/enemy, Margaret Tate, make him pretty much the perfect boyfriend. If only we all could have the unfortunate luck of getting into a fake engagement with him.
7. Jack Dawson, Titanic
Leonardo DiCaprio. Need I say more? Another character that risks everything for a girl. He’s playful, smart, handsome and basically perfect if we’re being honest. Though the film is a tragic love story that makes each and everyone us cry even the 20th time watching, whenever he’s on screen you can’t help but smile.
8. Patrick Verona, 10 Things I Hate About You
He’s Australian, he’s a bad boy and he effortlessly pulls off his off-key version of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You”. The accent is enough to earn him a spot, but its his effect on Kat Stratford and his clever comebacks that really seals the deal.
9. Noah Calhoun, The Notebook
The is the second appearance of Ryan Gosling on this list, and for good reason. I mean, come on, he wrote Allie 365 letters without a response and pined for her for most of his adult life. It doesn’t get much more romantic than that. His innocence when he first meets his love and his devotion to getting her back are so pure, they're almost hard to imagine being qualities in a real life person.
Now that you’ve got a few to choose from, ignore your homework, sit down with some popcorn and brag to all your friends that are coupled up that you don’t have to compromise on what movie to watch, one of the many advantages of being single.
