Tinder is a dating application that has been on the rise within young adults. It’s a simple application that allows users to swipe to the left if they find no interested in them based on their profile or if they do find interest, the user would swipe right indicating that they ‘Like’ the individual.
I’ve been a previous user on the application and it completely surprises me about how many guys think that if I swipe right, I’m consenting to hook up or give sex. I feel as a piece of meat on the market. No where on Tinder where it says, “Swipe Right To Say Yes to Having Sex.” Why has Tinder turned a sex application instead of dating application. Tinder’s mission state says, “The people we meet change our lives. A friend, a date, a romance, or even a chance encounter can change someone’s life forever. Tinder empowers users around the world to create new connections that otherwise might never have been possible. We build products that bring people together.”
People forget about that and we construct how we view Tinder to be which is a sex application. Why is it that boys forget their manners and start to see women as sexual objects that have an ass or boobs? We have feelings and needs. I want to be listened to and understand that I am valid for my mind and my body. Not just the body. I am a person who has feelings, wants, desires and needs. I am not a toy, you just pick up and throw around whenever it’s necessary for when it fits his schedule.
Why is it so bad that I just want to be taken out on a date? To go to the movies or go for a walk in the park. Why does it always have to be, “Come over to my apartment and we can chill” which is code for “sex” Does it really have to be that way? That we speak this different language of things don’t actually mean what they really are. That’s so stupid.
Waiting for the right person and being choosey is a-okay. But going with these pigs who see you as a piece of meat is not okay because you deserve way more than you give yourself credit for. Believe that there is a Prince Charming because he is there. You just have to find him and get off Tinder.
