Surviving “Sylly” week even if you don’t want to go out and get “Silly”….

All you see on Instagram and Twitter about how easy syllabus week is and how amazing it is being able to go to class and just relax because professors don’t do anything anyways right?

Sure you don’t have to go out and party, and if you do and you’re reading this, you are in no ways wrong with what you want to do with your life, there just might be other people who don’t really enjoy the party scene anymore.

Sometimes you don’t want to do what everyone else does, but you don’t want to be that boring friend that just sits in their room at night binge watching One Tree Hill or Greys Anatomy, especially when it gets closer to a new season coming out. Trust me, it can get addicting and pretty soon you’ll realize its 3 am and you should go to bed because you have an 8 am. And in the morning I promise you might feel like you did go out and party all night and went to class in what you wore yesterday, but no one knows because 8 times out of 10, you don’t see the same people from the day before.

Here are just a few quick ways to survive Sylly week without being in the party scene:

1. Get into your studies early..

Getting into your books before classes start getting into everything can become the key to the success of the semester. Being prepared for classes can give you a leg up on others and show the professors you thought were never going to know you name to get to know you and get used to you being ahead of everyone and call on you more often. They’ll also go out of their way to see if you need help if you don’t know something right away.

2. Buy a small fish tank if your school allows it..

Please take my word on this, you’ll love watching them swim around and picking out the little decorations to put in their tank. And get little ones because you can get more of them for a smaller tank and have more enjoyment in watching them. Also, they’re scientifically proven to relieve stress, like when you feel like the whole world is crashing down on you, just sit and watch your fish and it feels like the world has let up just the slightest bit.

3. Spend some time organizing your room..

By the second month of school your clothes will be all over your room because you have gone through all your wash and haven’t found the time to make it down the hall to the laundry room even though you pass it about 30 times a day. Make sure everything is where you need it and where it can be found the easiest.

4. Go out on a walk around your campus/town..

I know all the walking is what you feel like you do for 23 hours out of the day but getting out to know where everything is and you can give people directions because they’re in the same boat as you. And the town part is for the shopping addict or antiquer deep down in all of us. Itll pay off when you have a little money to spend after finals before you head home.

5. Start talking to brand new people..

Every single person has probably told you this but meeting new people is pretty important. Even I theyre the people you wouldn’t have ever thought to talk to in high school because they seem to popular. Wrong. Everyone is equal because everyone is figuring everything out one set at a time, and who knows, maybe you’ll meet a lifelong friend.

6. Visit the gym..

Even though it sounds like a daunting task with just wanting to watch Netflix and eat Oreos, just get up and g. Even if its 3 days a week because later on you might need a stress reliever and the gym just might be your thing. As Nike always says “Just Do It”.

7. Take a nap or two..

Something else to learn is how to take naps when you can. In between classes, after class, and even having a pre sleep nap because it's been one of those days and you just need it.

Even though this is something different then everything in the last 18 years, it’s something amazing. So enjoy it because soon enough you’ll be walking across another stage and getting another piece of paper to carry with you behind your name for the rest of your life.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
