The school year has finally come to an end. No more work from school to complete and no more waking up at seven in the morning. It also means trips to the beach and making the most of your time with family and friends. For those who are able to enjoy their summer, I envy you. I chose to make the decision to take chemistry online during the summer. Sadly, the one month I could have spent doing something fun or sleeping late is going to go to waste.
Why would you even take an online course?
I’m taking an online course over the summer not because I failed a course, even though I personally thought I would have ended up failing math. I’m taking chemistry online over the summer, because I needed to have an open spot in my schedule for next year to take another course. Taking it over the summer will allow me to take another course instead of chemistry for the upcoming school year.
Pros? Cons?
Personally, based on my first week experience, I still have conflicting feelings regarding taking online courses over the summer. I dislike the fact that I can’t even sleep until 11 or noon like the way I would have wanted to. The thing is I really don’t have to wake up as early but I choose to. It’s just that I have to cover one whole year of school in six weeks which means in order to finish the course, I need to put in at least six hours per day. The earlier I wake up, the sooner I can get my work done for the day. There is an issue balancing free time and school work each day but I try to make the best out of it. Not to mention they charge a couple hundred dollars to take a course, which I wish wasn’t the case. It’s not all just cons when it comes to online courses; it has its advantages. One in particular is not having to spend a year sitting in a chair surrounded by people you may not be able to stand. Speaking of chairs, I can do my work at my desk while sitting in my comfortable chair and feel completely at home, which is something I can't really do at school because I'm stuck crammed into a desk. Also, my friends have stated multiple times the difficulty of chemistry so at least this way, I wouldn’t have to struggle as much as I would if I took it during the school year.
Would you recommend it?
Personally, even though I don’t get to enjoy my sleep as much as I would want to, I would still recommend taking an online course. Not only are you covering a whole semester/year in a matter of six weeks, it’s also a great experience. You can never worry about the teacher speaking too fast as you can pause or go backwards on any lesson you missed. Not only that but if you fail a quiz, you have two attempts to make a passing grade. When it comes to school, who doesn’t love a second chance to make a better grade? I will most likely take another online course my senior year and I would hope you would give taking an online course a shot. .
