Bid day came and went in a simple blink of an eye. You've already had your new member meeting, you've learned about the financial responsibilities and the time commitment. It's all getting way too serious way too fast. You've been handed the calendar of events for the rest of the semester and realized that there is something going on almost every weekend of the semester. You have started to wonder if you'll be able to do it. You want to get the good grades, have the social life you want and still have time to be involved in such an amazing organization. But everything is just so freaking time consuming!
Are all these thoughts sounding familiar? Yeah, I thought so. Trust me, I know how you're feeling. I've been there. Every sorority girl has had the same emotions your feeling at one point in their lives. But somehow we made it out alive. I know everything is extremely overwhelming right now -- trying to learn everything about your sorority while keeping up with your classes, work, and trying to find that perfect big. IT'S A LOT.
But don't worry. The first step to making it out alive as a new member is taking a deep breath! Stop freaking out and just relax! Ask questions. Seriously ask all the questions you can possibly ask. Don't be scared to ask questions about the things you don't know. The only way your new member educator can help you is if you ask. Don't freak out if you cant make it to an event. If you have prior responsibilities or too much homework, it's okay. No one is going to be mad because you can't go to certain events, just make sure you let someone in your sorority know that you cannot attend that event in advance (probably not the day before or the day off the event).
To all of those new members who are still having doubts about their sorority, DON'T WORRY. That is normal, too. To be completely honest with everyone, it took me my entire first semester to really feel confident that I made the right choice. Some girls know right away that they are where there suppose to be. But it may take other girls a little bit of time. Trust me, when that amazing moment finally comes and you've met your big and the rest of your Greek family, you are going to feel right at home!
