Surving Finals Week 101

Keep calm and study on

Surving Finals Week 101

When you find yourself going from pulling all-nighters at the frat house, to all-nighters at the library you know it is that special time of year -- finals week. It is one of the rare downsides of college, but there is light at the end of the tunnel! Here are some tips for surviving finals week.

Plan ahead. Make a study schedule and try to stick to it. If you know that one subject takes a little more effort than the others, make sure to schedule extra study time for that subject. Planning ahead is way better than waiting until the last minute; you’ll thank yourself later.

Sleep! A good night’s rest is linked to better retention of information. Although it might seem like a good idea to stay up later to study more, it might actually do more harm than good. Why stay up until 3 a.m. reading the same paragraph over and over when you can get some rest and start fresh in the morning?

Study strategically. It is not studying if you are texting, tweeting, liking Instagram pictures, and browsing through Buzzfeed articles with a textbook in front of you. It is time to step away from Facebook and really focus. There are plenty of websites that will block social media sites for a given amount of time, and this will allow you to use you computer without falling into the vortex of social media.

Treat yourself! After long grueling hours of studying, you should reward yourself! Take a break and listen to soothing music, or dance around your room to 7/11. Do something that takes your mind out of the textbooks. Go for a jog, or get some coffee with a friend. Remember, take a break but don’t forget to go back to studying!

Dress up (just a little). “Dress well to test well,” is my motto. You may be unlucky enough to have a final that starts at 8 a.m., but try to wear something nice rather than showing up in your pajamas. You don’t have to don a three piece suit, but putting a little extra effort into your finals day outfit may boost your confidence. Try picking out your outfits beforehand to avoid being late from agonizing over the perfect finals day outfit.

Finals week will come and go but try not to stress yourself out too much. Be sure to seek extra help from professors, and find study groups to review with. You got this! Happy finals week! May the odds be ever in your favor!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
