I Surprised My Best Friend...
Abi Huff

Meaghan is my best friend. She currently goes to college in upstate New York and her family resides in Florida. This is the timeline of everything that happened in planning to surprise my best friend on our spring break.

January 4, 2019

I messaged one of Meaghan's friends on Instagram, explaining what I was doing and that I needed her mom's phone number to coordinate days and make sure it was okay that I came down to Florida. Of course, it was okay. Meaghan and I have had a rough few months and it would nice for both of us to have this time to relax and be together.

January 17, 2019

Meaghan's mother texted me saying they bought her plane ticket home. This meant that it was my turn to find plane tickets... I found plane tickets on the same day you fly into Florida, and organizing this will be very interesting. I will be in Florida for 7 days.

January 23, 2019

I texted Meaghan's mother asking when your land in Florida. Meaghan lands at 2:00 pm and I land at 3:20 pm. Meaghan's parents are going to take her out to grab some food and then come back to the airport pick me up. Their reason to go back to the airport is to pick a missionary (me).

February 4, 2019

February 4 is Meaghan's birthday. I wished her happy birthday and that I sent her a present, but she won't get it until she gets home in Florida for spring break.

February 20, 2019

Meaghan and I were on FaceTime for a few hours and she was asking questions about spring break. The whole plan slipped out. Meaghan now knows I am coming to Florida.

Meaghan and I are currently planning everything out. We will be going to the beach, and Disney World. We will be getting tattoos that we have talked about for a long time. We are both still so excited. Only a few more days until I fly down to Florida!

March 12, 2019

I have been in Florida for five days now. It has been so nice to see my best friend. Since we live so far away from each other, we tend to miss each other a lot; especially when things get bumpy in our lives. We have gone to the pool, went to Tampa to explore, started a new Netflix, and we will be getting tattoos before I leave.

My goal this year was to spend more time with the people in my life and to allow others to come into my life. This has been a good trip, and I cannot wait to see what the rest of the year brings.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
