"Just because you speak your mind does not qualify you to be the President of the United States of America." That is always my opener when people ask me why I don't support Trump. While writing this article, I decided that the reasons that I would highlight wouldn't be synonymous with any political party- because I don't think that's the root of this problem. I think the root of the issue I have with Donald Trump is a little deeper than political party affiliation.
While I would consider myself a very liberal person, and in most cases following a democratic ideology, I don't like to be labeled as being affiliated with a particular. Politics have different views on every subject, and they don't always fall together with one affiliation. But there is one thing I am sure of as we are heading into the third primary of our 2016 presidential election: I will never support Donald Trump.
First I would like to assess the two main reasons that I have heard that people support Donald Trump claim:
"He speaks his mind." I would like to know how this qualifies someone to be the President of the United States of America. I understand seeing "speaking your mind" as a desirable attribute of someone who would run our country- someone who wouldn't beat around the bush, someone who would tell it like it is- about the kind of stuff that is important to the functioning of our country! I don't think that insulting entire groups of people really makes a difference in the way that we run our country. I think we should be speaking our mind about that exact type of thing as political officials- about deleting racism, sexism and all the other "isms" that people are currently dealing with in this country, instead of using this slander as a part of a campaign. And I understand the argument about being politically correct, I really do, but I also believe that people should not be judged based on the color of their skin, their race, ethnicity, religions, sexual preference and so on and so forth. I understand that we as a generation might be "touchy," but I don't think that's a bad thing... I think we are using our right to freedom of speech and speaking our minds in a way that will benefit our country for the better.
And onto the next... "He is not corrupt like all the other politicians, all the other candidates are so politically correct."
Now, let me ask you all a question... Has ANYONE considered that maybe, just maybe, it isn't the candidates that are corrupt, but the system in which they are serving? That maybe if we consider every person with a political background to be "corrupt" maybe we should be able to fix our system? Apparently not, because instead of fixing the problem, we are seeking someone to run our country who has NO political background.
How could we even compare Donald Trump to the other candidates, who have served as clerks to The Supreme Court (Ted Cruz), been the Secretary of State (Hillary Clinton), or being the longest serving independent in United States History, (Bernie Sanders) to a business man with a degree in business management?
I personally don't believe that being a business man and a television personality qualifies you to be the President, and that has nothing to do with my political ideology or affiliation. Aside from these two points that I have made, I also believe that plenty of the things that he has said were completely out of line, and showed incredible amounts of disrespect to various different groups of people. Conclusively, I don't believe that someone with no political background, even if they speak their mind (with the majority of it being offensive and hypocritical) is qualified to be the president of our great nation.
