When it comes to shopping for college supplies it can be super overwhelming. There are so many things that you didn’t think you’d need until you actually get on campus. While we all want to be cautious when it comes to spending money, there are still some things worth splurging on.
1. A good water bottle
With the amount of money you spend buying a bottle of water from the vending machine, buying a quality water bottle pays for itself. Carrying your own water, in general, is a great habit to start during your freshman year. While some water bottles can spill and ruin everything in your backpack, finding one that is insulated and locks in place makes a huge difference especially when you’re on campus all day. Aside from the convenience, ditching plastic bottles will not only save you money but will also help save the environment.
2. Waterproof backpack
In Florida, you never know when it’s going to rain. With that being said, while a cute cloth backpack might be cute, it’s not always practical. Putting in that little extra money can save you if you ever forget your umbrella. Also, a waterproof backpack also gives you a great piece of mind because even though you have an umbrella you still have to choose to either protect your stuff or protect yourself.
3. A good pair of headphones
Forgetting your headphones is one of the worst feelings in the world. While most of us stick to the standard headphones that come with our phones, it doesn’t hurt to invest in a high-quality pair. If you find something that will last you a long time, there’s a good chance that you’ll save a lot more money in the long run. For me, buying separate wireless headphones for the gym was one of my biggest lifesavers. While they were expensive, I wouldn’t trade them for the world.
4. Waterproof speaker
If you live on campus but want to listen to music, lectures or audiobooks in the shower, a waterproof speaker is a perfect thing to invest in. There are so many things you can do with a waterproof wireless speaker ranging from workout sessions to just watching movies. Plus, unlike some things a waterproof speaker is something that you’ll still have a use for after your college days.
5. Wireless mouse
While I know some people can manage without a mouse, it really makes a huge difference to have one just in case. Some mice can be expensive, but just buying a cheap one can save you when you’re in a pinch. If you want the pictures in your PowerPoint to be placed in just the right place or just editing something, a mouse is a must.
6. Comfy shoes

Walking on a college campus can sometimes feel like a marathon. Having comfy shoes changes everything because, at the end of the day, you can still feel your toes. Whether they are super cheap or a fancy expensive brand not having comfy shoes is a huge step in the wrong direction.
